24: $30 million *opt out* 25: $30 million *opt out* 25: $20 million Does he take up 2 roster slots in 25? The Cubs starting their own thing by signing 1 player to 2 contracts for 1 year?

This is the deal a lot of us were dreaming of, frankly. We might only need him for 1 year, and he has a lot of incentive to go nuts this year and help us tremendously, not hurt our financial situation, and either be gone after year 1 or atleast have some promise for years 2 and 3 regardless of how it goes. Hot damn!

LFG!! Was about to post. He gets his cash & a chance to opt out at 29 if he rakes. I'm down with this!!!
We can roll with this now. Get 1 more BP arm and go for the division title!!
** Note ** You have to wonder if Belli just told Boras "Get it done with opt outs". It makes sense for both sides actually. Belli can still land a 5-6 year deal at 29 or 30 if he reaches last year's numbers or actually improves.

Perfect deal. I had posed 3/105 just to sign his ass and get him back here a couple months ago. He has all the incentive in the world to go out there and mash so he can hit the open market again next offseason but with more confidence from the league as well as no QO attachment. The Cubs meanwhile reap the rewards of a very short term Bellinger which was always preferable.
Great job Jed. The only thing that would make this better at this point is adding to the pitching staff a bit. They are right about the CBT threshold but draft pick and international bonus penalties don’t come in until the first tier which we are very far from. If there is an arm out there that appeals they should snatch them up now and pay the 20% overage. It’s not like that ~2.3m of wiggle room will net a likely difference maker at the deadline, just get better now instead.

So, if Belli opts into that last year, Hoerner/Happ/Belli/Suzuki all enter free agency in 2027.

Glad Cody is back, but it took this long to come up with 3 years/80M with option outs?

Glad Cody is back, but it took this long to come up with 3 years/80M with option outs? Yep. Of course, no one saw this coming, back in November. That is, Bellinger running out of Teams that fit and he re-signs with Cubs for less money than anybody ever imagined. Nobody saw that one... LOL

LOL I mean this is not a complicated long term mega deal like Ohtani, but this could've gotten done during the winter meetings. instead dragged on and on to 2 games into spring training

With PCA, Cassie, Canario, Alcantera, and hopefully Davis back in the mix I believe at least a couple outfield spots will be replaced in house. Who knows what could develop for the infield by then. I know it’s putting a lot of hope in prospect development but I’ve been the eternal optimist since 1950’s so I ain’t changing now

Just another exsmple of the player telling Boras let's just get the best deal & be done with it. Kudos to Jed for sticking to his guns and not worrying about a message board's anxiety (myself included)!! 🤣🤣
