Later in that year in the WS, he choked at the left field wall in the bottom of the 9th of game 6, opening the door for the hated evil empire. I remember Dal Maxvill. He was all fielder and struggled to hit anything, but then they really didn't need him for offense. That was the WS where Bob Gibson and Mickey Lolich were locked up in game 7 and then Curt Flood botched a ball in center field late in the game giving the Tigers the series. Both Gibson and Lolich were outstanding in that series and Lolich was pitching on 2 days rest in game 7.

1929 The Philadelphia Athletics rally for three runs in the 9th inning to beat the Chicago Cubs, 3 – 2, and take the World Series in five games. Montero was a major piece of the championship that doesn't get enough credit. From the grand slam to the vital insurance run of game 7, Miguel is sadly remembered more for his exit than those timely hits.

I remember thinking in 2004 when Ortiz ended that game that it was at least putting off the Yankees for one more night. Little did we know that we were witnessing history being made and the first long drought in baseball coming to an end. The cherry on top was of course, the Red Sox beating the cardinals in the WS. Back to 1977, Reggie Jackson put on quite a show in that series. He was flamboyant and a lot of people didn't like him, but he is the perfect example of an athlete rising to the occasion and coming through when it counts. Often people overlook this most important quality in an athlete.
