which holds true for any team. i honestly don't know where you're going with this unless you're just trying to get under people's skin. you should be able to grasp what we're saying because you seem smart enough. Some of you seem to have the wrong idea that I say the Cubs suck, which I don't, and never have said. Then you have the idea that I think the Cubs are a below or close to .500 team, which I don't, and never said. It all started in this thread because I said that I don't believe the Cubs are just a reliever or two away from winning it all, I think this rotation can't win a 7 game series against an elite rotation like the Mets, and I think the hitting can't win if Heyward doesn't pan out as expected. So I said don't trade Schwarber. And until I see this team's average beat good teams that won't change. That's all! And then people started calling me out because I think the Cubs suck, or that I think the are a below .500 team. Or that everything is wrong, etc... Which I've never said. but you did say that, which is why i quoted you where you said it. you said "this team" referencing the injured, pre-trade deadline team is the "leveling off" version of this team, which it isn't. respond if you want, i'm done. we're just going in circles at this point.

So then tell us which teams in the National League are more complete than the Cubs if the Cubs can solidify their bullpen? Point is that every team slumps and every team has holes. You're looking at a 30 game span and assuming the worst. You go ahead and research how many teams have made the playoffs or the World Series and did not have a 20 games span of under five hundred or even a 30-game span of under 500 baseball. The list will be very short and that encompasses over a hundred years of baseball.

Considering the Mets rotation keeps taking hits they might not make it to September. Now Harvey is finished, possibly forever. Matz has a bum elbow. Thor has bone spurs......Ill take our rotation anyday.

But then you pasted this in a game thread, and I'm not going to turn a game thread in a personal discussion.. "1. Tell me how many world series winners let alone playoff teams haven't had a sub .500 20-30 game streak over the course of their season 2. Since the Cubs are so badly equipped as a baseball team, tell me all the other NL teams that are better and why? Same 2 questions I asked you in another thread that you were bashing the Cubs. I never said they are badly equipped as a baseball team, quite the contrary. And I never bashed the Cubs. The only thing I said, and I'll repeat myself again, is that they are not as good as they were in the beginning, and not as bad as they are right now, they wil level off, and let's see if that team can beat winning teams, the team right now clearly can't. And no, not only the BP is to blame, also the starting pitching and the hitting, as you can see today, even if the pitching only gives up 2 runs, they might lose the game. They can't advanced player or play small ball, you can see two inning with runners on first and second, no outs, and 0 runs. You want to lie some more on what I said? Yeah, I said they were terrible when I predicted 92-98 wins!

Yeah, I said they were terrible when I predicted 92-98 wins! First off let me be 100% clear, this is not a personal attack. I'm saying that your statements in this thread are completely wrong and at the same time I'm asking you to back them up with facts. Secondly I am asking you to show me how many playoff or World Series team haven't had a sub 500 stretch of 20-30 games over the course of their season. The next part of your inane posts hinges on this information. Next, you did say in this thread that until they win a series or 2 against an above average team, that you don't think they can win in the playoffs. If you like I can cut and paste and show you where you actually said this. Umm they've won a number of Series this year against above 500 teans. So with that said that takes us back to my first point in which I am asking you to show me all the teams who have made the playoffs or the World series without a sub 500 20-30 game span over that season. If all you are basing your "feelings" on is the past 30 games it should be easy enough to find some sort of factual information to make your point more concrete. That right there makes my first question completely relevant. I'm not personally attacking I'm asking you to back up what you say with actual facts. You made that statement numerous times with quite a bit of vitriol so I assume you have some sort of factual information to back it up. That's what I would like you to do. Show me where I am lying. Cut and paste is easy but backpedaling on what you said on the other hand can be quite difficult. You said what you said with such certainty so I'll be waiting for your answers.

I don't know about you, but I have been watching the Cubs for almost 50 years, and I have probably forgot more about this great game than most guys know. I can tell when a team is struggling, and when they are fundamentally flawed. Too many mental errors, bad base running and refusal to move runners by whatever means available. Not to mention patience. Everyone thinks they have to hit a HR every AB. I blame most of this on the manager it is his job to set things right, and I don't see him doing anything. I am sure they will make the playoffs, and after that who knows? Barring injury, this team is going to be a lot of fun to watch for a long time. Just not so much right now.

My questions were pretty simple and should be answered pretty easily. If someone has a need to play the victim when their comments are questioned in an articulate manner that doesn't automatically mean they are actually being attacked or victimized. If me asking questions of someone in order to back up their statements is mean then so be it.

I have answered what I said, that until they show me they can beat winning teams, I will think they can't, numerous times in this thread. Yeah, they did beat everyone with ease the first month and a half, with ease! But they were playing way above their heads, well, some of them, like Fowler, Zobrist, Hammel, Hendricks, Lester, etc... And they were winning at an unprecedented rate. .700 or above. Right now they are playing close to .500 and can't beat any winning team and even lose to some bad teams. The real Cubs are somewhere in between those two versions, That's their average, level or mean, as you want to call it. And I still need to see that leveled team beat a winning team or two in a series to believe they can win in the playoffs. That's it! I'm not saying they suck or anything. I'm not saying this is their level right now either. I believe we still haven't seen their real level, but they do have played more as a.500 team, 54 games counting today, than at .700, 31 games. The other thing I said, and what I still need to see they can beat some winning teams, is because it's not only the BP, the starting rotation is also leveling off, they will be at around their career averages as well, maybe not Hendrciks since he's got a small sample. And Arrieta, who has improved exponentially here, but the rest will... And the hitting, that relies on too many HR's, and has stopped playing patient and for contact, mainly because Fowler and Zobrist are leveling off, and Heyward has not panned out as planned. Until I see those things fixed and/or changed, I can't say they will beat anyone in the playoffs. That's what I see and think. I don't think they suck or I'm in any way bashing them. And mid you were calling me out on the game thread, and agreeing with someone who was lying about me, that felt like a personal attack.

Ok so that again take me back to my first point. You're saying yes they did beat winning teams, by the way it was the first 2 months not 1 month. So you're basing your assumption that they can't succeed in the playoffs on the last 20-30 games. I'm not sure how you can continue to argue that but never-the-less I'm asking you to point out what playoff teams over the course of baseball history haven't had a sub 500 20-30 stretch in a season? I'll give you a hint there are Maybe four or five over the course of the last hundred years. You're the kind of person who likes to make statements No matter What factual basis they have or don't have, and then when you are called out you play the victim.

And was called out by many, including you by things I never said, Ilene bashing the Cubs, saying they suck or that they're should be a below .500 team.

RISP during our latest slump: 6/20 vs STL 1-5 .200 6/21 vs STL 0-9 .000 6/22 vs STL 1-3 .333 (Series 2-17 .118) 6/23 vs FLA 0-5 .000 6/24 vs FLA 2-8 .250 6/25 vs FLA 1-11 .182 6/26 vs FLA 1-5 .200 (Series 4-29 .138) 6/27 vs CIN 4-14 .286 6/28 vs CIN 3-11 .273 6/29 vs CIN 3-8 .375 (Series 10-33 .303) 6/30 vs NYM 0-7 .000 7/1 vs NYM 0-9 .000 7/2 vs NYM 0-2 .000 7/3 vs NYM 0-1 .000 (Series 0-19 .000) 7/4 vs CIN 2-13 .154 7/5 vs CIN 0-7 .000 7/6 vs CIN 1-2 .500 (Series 3-22 .137) 7/7 vs ATL 2-9 .222 RISP during this temporary slump 20-129 .155
If only we were healthy? That would've solved it all? Dexter Fowler RISP .231 Jorge Soler RISP .206 Tommy La Stella RISP .188 Chris Coghlan RISP .000 Including our fabulous start and every fantastic streak we've had, this season:We're 13th NL Hitting Late/Close We're 13th NL Hitting with runners on - 2 outs We're .001 pct pt from 13th NL Hitting RISP - 2 outs We're 14th NL Hitting - 2 outs We're 14th NL Hitting in games lost We're 14th NL Hitting when trailing The good news is... We lead the League in Walks We led the League in Walks in Apr. We were 2nd in May and led the League again in June. If they walk the fuck out of us in the playoffs... If our starting pitching is unreal dominant... If we never fall behind... If our bullpen hangs on, every game... If none of the games are close, at the end... We are gonna kick ass in the playoffs. It's obvious to everyone, except the Trolls & Debbie Downers. Coming up: B2B2B series against the Pirates, Rangers and Mets. That's what I've been trying to say, it's not only the bullpen, and not only the injuries. This team has a deficient offense, it started great because Fowler and Zobrist were playing phenomenal, but that has come to earth and the other contact and on base guy, Heyward, hasn't panned out as expected. This was their problem last year, specially in the NLCS, and it really got addressed, but Hewyward isn't playing like shit! But they need to do something if they want to win in the playoffs, or as you said, even getting there... I know I said they will be there, but seeing that schedule... It could get ugly if things are not changed. We just lost two series against the Reds and Braves, and now we have 3 against winning teams, and the best record in the AL. For sure it will say a lot about were this team stands.

Yes it has been tough to watch the last couple weeks, but I really do believe that this is a blip in their season. Their talent level is just too good to sustain such poor performance. Honestly, I'm OK with the Cubs going through this now than late in the season. Come playoff time, we always knew that they'd have to be hot to make a run. They got the horses to make that happen. I'm more concerned about injuries. I feel that in-game chemistry is being affected.

In other words, if the Cubs are the totally dominant team that they were at the beginning of the year, they will win it all. Here's hoping that happens or in even other other words... we've seen what this team is capable of and they need to be that team in the playoffs. that's all it comes down to and this is something that holds true for every contender. every team has it's bad side and every team has it's good side. for contenders it's all about which team shows up in the postseason. if the bad side shows up, no go. if the good side shows up, the sky's the limit.
