Just wait until these contracts age.
It'll catch up to the Dodgers, no doubt about it.
Sure, eventually but they will probably have multiple world championships and thats what its all about and to them the money doesnt matter. I cannot speak for anyone else but I would much rather spend intelligently than win a World Series. Winning trades is a close second.

I still think Snell is all about the fit. The Dodgers don’t need to worry so much about his health (we can say whatever we want about his injuries and being arm related or not, the guy has routinely had issues staying on the field) and trademark slow starts. They have the confidence of knowing they are overwhelmingly headed to the postseason and can baby him to make sure he’s ready for October. We have to worry about first making the playoffs and a key to getting there is weathering the regular season storm. Consecutive seasons now we have endured brutal first halves that have let to conflicted approaches at the deadline. Last season the pitching staff was decimated by injuries. In my opinion the biggest thing we need in our rotation is stability. For as good as Snell can be he has been awfully inconsistent, both in terms of results (last four seasons by ERA+: 92, 112, 187, 124) and staying on the field (last four seasons by IP: 128.2, 128.0, 180.0, 104.0). Snell doesn’t offer the assurance that we need in my opinion to first get to October baseball before worrying about building specifically for winning in October. That's why he's 5/182 and not 9/275

Still waiting on the Intelligent spending part, going over the luxury tax to win 83 games with no elite player does not seem intelligent but pretty sure Jed and Tom has a different definition what the word means

Big market team In their history they have signed 5 players to contracts over 100 million Heyward Swanson Lester Soriano Darvish and two other players over 75 million Bellinger Ramirez and only 5 others over 50 million Stroman Taillon Zobrist Jackson Dempster This is two off seasons for the Dodgers

Blake Snell is getting as massive pay but he has been elite for 2 years and showing no signs of slowing down, the first half last year was a outliner. Snell is a minimum a 4 Win player and I bet he at least gives that next season, now imagine Snell replacing Hendricks spot who had a -1.6 WAR last season, there is a case adding Snell adds possible 6 wins. While I am not saying the Cubs should of signed him, but just shows adding an elite player can do to this team and why it is needed, there is just no margin for error otherwise. We actually removed Kyle already & say you replace him with Brown or Wicks or Wesneski, you still gained at least 3 WAR (-1.6 + 1.4 for new guy) but at a cost of under 1 million. “IF” they use the extra $$ on other players (Buehler, Jansen, Fried, etc.) we could very well be better off that with just 5 years of Snell.

The Cubs should have signed him. A top 3 of Snell, Steele , Imanaga would be tough to match in the playoffs until you get to LA. This is the guy other than obviously Soto that could have taken the Cubs to the next step. This contract would not have kiĺled them. Probably correct but I wouldn’t hate Fried or Buehler..

I wouldn't either but I wanted to see them step up for Snell and make a statement , he could have been the Lester type signing , instead they are probably also out of Fried and they could be in on Buehler because he's probably looking at a pillow contract and nothing long term right now. I know there is a lot of interest in him though , but they need to step up and make a bold move.

Still waiting on the Intelligent spending part, going over the luxury tax to win 83 games with no elite player does not seem intelligent but pretty sure Jed and Tom has a different definition what the word means Steele and Imanaga, I’ll argue, are pretty elite but I definitely agree with your point. I take issue with the Cubs being seemingly disinterested in top free agents. If you look at this team, it seems primed to make a playoff push with a few tweaks here and there. Shaw, Caissie and maybe Ballesteros seem on the cusp of being ML ready. They have enough minor league talent to make a serious trade for an impact player, they have money to make a deal, correction, they have the enough wiggle room to stay under the cap and make a big deal, and they have major league talent they can move. Snell made so much sense for the Cubs and they said forget it. I strongly doubt they make a push a Burnes at all. I want Flathery and that shouldn’t be too much to ask. Then cool your starting pitching pursuit until Sasaki signs because the fanboy in me thinks the Cubs have a good shot. Cubs still have the same wish list: TOR starter X 2 Catcher High leverage reliever

Their highest risk and highest reward pitcher would be Flaherty. He will be “expensive” but well within the price and year range. He absolute Ace potential and at just 29 years old, a five year deal would workout perfectly. Walker Buehler also has clear Ace upside but I would hate for the Cubs to only get one year out of him. Fried I don’t want for a couple reasons, one, of course is the QO attached to him. Second is that he seems a lot like a left handed Kyle Hendricks, which is fine but he doesn’t have elite stuff and we are pushing two lefties in Steele and Imanaga in front of him.

He had some great years with the evil empire and seems to be getting back to that form

I'd rather have Fried than Snell, but it's very close. If Snell landed 5/182 then Fried will probably be close behind in dollars/years.
My Fried prediction now: 6/158

I kind of have that feeling too , and I like his mentality on the mound and what he's become , but I also think there is a very slim chance he's a complete bust on a long term deal because his track record of being the guy we saw on the mound for LA isn't there. It worries me a little that he had an ERA over 5 only a year ago and couldn't get better than a 1 year deal with Detroit last winter and now people want to throw what over 100 million at him off of this season. I'd be very happy if they sign him , and I think the chances are you are right about the Wheeler comp . just wish he had more than one very good year recently.

Fried misses barrels at an elite rate but he doesn’t have much of a margin for error. I’m afraid Fried is going to be like Hendricks, who also spent the better part of his career missing barrels and pitching to contact. We used to believe these types of pitchers aged well but the reality is that they haven’t. Once they lose a little bit of “stuff” those barrel rates shoot through the roof and so does everything else.

But that's the past , I can't ignore this , yeah I know it's the past too , but more recent Snell over his final 14 starts, 1.23 earned run average while holding opponents to a .123/.211/.171 batting line. The guy was almost unhittable the second half .

Brother, they are going to do just that with Walker Buehler as well next year when he rebounds as well. And they will do it with Woody. It’s the nature of the beast.
