I get the feeling Jed is a lame duck. The moves he has made so far at least show he is either incapable of building a playoff roster or Ricketts is not allowing him to tie up money beyond 1-2 years so the incoming PBO has a fresh slate to work with. If the rumors are true, the Cubs are shopping Bellinger and Hoerner, then it signifies that the Cubs are not serious about making the postseason next year. I’m sorry but a rotation of Steele, Imanaga, Boyd, Taillon and Assad is not good. Neither will an offense subtracting Bellinger and Hoerner in addition to the defense becoming notably worse. Bring on Click! The Brewers lost Counsell, Burnes, Woodruff and Yelich, for half a season, and the Cubs still couldn't pass them. I'm more concerned that Ricketts will give Hoyer an extension.

Cool , give me one of Gilbert Kirby Miller Woo I'm sure the Cubs would have to kick in more than Nico , but make it happen or I'd even take their closer Munoz

To the Brewers credit they get production from their young players, with MVP votes for 3 of their position players, Yelich would have been 4. But most importantly they dominated the division going 32-20. Huge!

I'm not saying I have confidence he will get what us fans want , but to complain about it now isn't my thing when I know they are not done or close to it. The Cubs rotation according to Fangraphs with Boyd and ranking them by total WAR was 18th , not great but not horrible and probably took a hit because Steele's WAR would have probably been higher if he didn't miss so many starts. I can't find a site that has them ranked by ERA , that's what I was looking for . BBR has them 11th in quality starts This place sportsnaut.com/mlb/lists/best-mlb-rotations-2024/who did it in October has them ranked 10th best rotation When you Failed to make the post season as the “head guy” in San Diego, failed to make the post so so far as the “head guy” in Chicago, have reports leak that you’re trading one of if not the most impactful bat (Bellinger) on the team and the most valuable player on the team (Nico), that you are “out” on Juan Soto, never even kicked the tires on Snell and reports come out that you are “shopping a tier down” from Fried, Flathery, Burnes then the next report says you’re shopping even further down and you give that report validity when you sign Boyd, you lose good will. Not to mention you fuck up the trade deadline and go over the luxury tax threshold. Hoyer go out and spends 15 million on Boyd when the Cubs are penny pinching? Hoyer needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat because this team is mediocre and not a playoff caliber team right now in the least. ***I don’t care what some random site says about Cubs pitching or where they ranked in era. Wrigley was impossible to hit in last season and eras are heavily skewed. Steele and Imanaga are the only two sure things followed by a 4th starter at best in Taillon and a Hail Mary in Boyd.

Agreed. I am in favor of Click for at least the next 4 years and/or until retirement age. What is his contract status in Toronto? It doesn’t really matter since his role currently is beneath a GM and surely underneath the PBO title he would receive to run the Cubs.

Try to keep up with who’s posting because I never laughed it off. Contrarily I’ve mentioned who Wrigley sucked about 150 points average off hitters OPS. Also noting Busch, Suzuki and Paredes were monsters on the road and Bellinger and Nico were both really good. Bellinger was over .800 and Nico was just shy of .800.

Take away going over the luxury tax last season - what's your biggest complaint about Hoyer? I really just am pissed that the mishap last season may affect our spending this offseason. Aside from that, I'm cool w/ "Jeddy & The Ricketts".

Several reports lately that have Seattle more interested in corner infield help than middle. If that ends up being true it could really put a damper on any trade discussions for their potent rotation arms.
Paredes is an easy flip for me but he isn’t likely being much back on his own and certainly not more than we gave up for him. Busch would be very counterintuitive in my opinion and Bellinger is probably out of their budget based on what we’ve heard about their willingness to spend.

The hindsight on that is 20/20. I don't hold it against Dansby for wanting to go for it instead of selling off - he's a player that wants to win. Should Jed be at fault for wanting to stay competitive during the process of constructing a team?

Take away going over the luxury tax last season - what's your biggest complaint about Hoyer? I really just am pissed that the mishap last season may affect our spending this offseason. Aside from that, I'm cool w/ "Jeddy & The Ricketts". My biggest complaint is the way he spends. I love Happ and respect him as a player but no way would I extend him or give him a no trade clause. Same thing for Swanson, there is no way I would have signed him. Taillon I never would have signed. Stroman I likely would have minus the player option because he was an ideal flip candidate. Mancini, absolutely not. Re-signing Smyly 100% no. The problem with Hoyer is he makes rounding out roster signings but the roster doesn’t have anyone to build around. Happs great if he was a complementary piece to an already established playoff team. Taillon is fine for a playoff team in need of a fourth or fifth starter with three incredibly strong top three. The Cubs have tied up way too much money on complementary players that we can’t afford actual impact players. Then, instead of going out with 60 million we had under the luxury tax and getting another Ace, he signs Boyd, trying up another 15 million. Hoyer constantly shoots himself in the foot. His woes are self inflicted and keeps making the same mistakes. In Taillon and Boyd’s AAV, we could have signed Snell. We could have sign Burnes. In Happ’s contract, we could have signed Hernandez. Instead of having the luxury of signing players to a position of need, we have to fit every player into the team. Also, Hoyer does a piss poor job at staggering contracts. Happ, Suzuki and Hoerner are all free agents in the same year, that is just stupid especially with Happ and Suzuki because both play corner outfield and have NTCs.

The timing of the Paredes deal didn’t make any sense. The Cubs were already well out of playoff contention and Shaw was already moved to 3rd and playing well there. The Candelario trade was not bad. The Cubs still had a chance to make the playoffs in that scenario and really should have. Although the seasons ended in the same W/L record, the situations were completely different. Cubs never should have dealt for Paredes but I don’t think we lost a whole lot in the deal. Odds are they could deal Paredes now and be better off than had they not made the trade.

Aside from that, I'm cool w/ "Jeddy & The Ricketts". 1.That he shops at the thrift store and not Macy's in free agency. 2.I was pondering how it would be worthwhile to pay a guy like Soto over 48 million a year which his supposed offers have him around and spending that on one player seemed foolish to me , but then I thought about it , he has that much tied up a year in Happ, Taillon and Boyd and I'd much rather have Soto than those three, so lets add how he does spend money when he spends it 3. Won't spend money on one of THE most important roles on a team, the closer. 4. He can't seem to pick a lane and stay with it in regards to the young players , atleast that we know of. 5.He often wait s for the market to come back to him and is not aggressive enough on good players.

The Parades trade was not about 2024 just like he said moves he might make won't be . It was more about this and the following years and he probably envisioned Shaw more at 2b in the teams future than at 3b and thought he had an all star in Parades .

I am also hoping that we can trade Jameson but if we don't I am not expecting a 5 ERA although an ERA of 4 is ABOVE league average for starting pitchers so even if he settled there he would still be a 3 / 4 starter which wouldn't kill us. I’m sorry but that is such loser speak. Do you think the Yankees and Dodgers are fine with “league average” out of their rotations? The Phillies? “Oh yeah well a 4.50 era is fine for a fourth starter so that’s cool. Maybe we will get lucky” I don’t buy that level of thinking. Especially not when you have Matt Boyd and Javier Assad in that same rotation. No, it's not "loser speak" to have teams sign #3, #4 & #5 starting pitchers that aren't all low 3 ERA guys - exactly as most every single team has in the MLB - just like the Dodgers. We already have Steele & Imanaga as our ! & @ guys & like it or not no team has 5 TOR starting pitchers although it would be awesome if we did.. Now if we can gram Sasaki to pair with those 3 I think with Boyd & whoever else we are in fantastic shape.
