27 games to go. Wont be easy, but crazier things have happened.

Braves lose! 4.0 back heading into September. Still have the Mets to consider as well and they are winning tonight but just keep winning and whatever happens, happens.

18-8 in August. 26 games remain. If they repeat that same performance in September they’ll end the season at 88-74. Is that enough? Maybe? Either way, 88 wins would be quite the achievement after the bullshit first half they once again put out.
Play it safe and go 20-6. If you still don’t make the playoffs you too your cap and add significantly in the offseason.

Braves 74-62 Mets 73-64 - 1.5 back Cubs 71-66 - 3.5 back
Braves play tonight against the Phillies and then take tomorrow off. Pirates come to Wrigley, Jones vs Taillon tomorrow. If the Braves lose tonight and the Cubs win tomorrow we will be just 2.5 back of them. Or the Braves win tonight and we win tomorrow? 3.0 back.
Either way, an absolute far cry from where things felt 3-4 weeks ago.

6-11 (.352) vs current postseason teams 2nd half. This is what kills the Cubs. Just be .500-ish vs postseason teams and they're 1.5 or 0.5 games back of the WC today. I bring up postseason teams in the 2nd half because the Cubs will be playing 9 of their final 24 games are vs the Yankees (home), Dodgers (road) and Phillies (road). Not to look ahead, but the Yankees and Dodgers back to back could end their season.

My take on the Cubs late season push, yes I want them to make the postseason, is that they're beating up on teams out of the postseason, teams that are rostering call ups and young players, and that's ok. Beat the teams you should beat. But they also have to beat teams who are fighting for a spot too and unfortunately they're struggling vs those teams going 6-11 in the 2nd half vs current postseason teams. Yankees and Dodgers back to back starting Friday will be a true test. Go 6-6 in some capacity vs those teams and I think it's a "win". Focus on the Pirates and win the next 2 games (gonna be tough vs Skenes tonight).

What is truly bizarre is that comparing the Cubs record against playoff teams up to the All Star break they were 27-29 & that was when we were really stinking it up..

The Cubs lose the tiebreaker against both the Braves and Mets. 3.5 games behind the Braves is actually 4.5.
