Although I wish there were more spots opened for players to move up and show what they can do, I am not in favor of making a bad trade to get there. If players were on the block but the return wasn't there I'm ok with keeping them. Trading below value sends a bad message all around.

other than Taillon don’t they all just walk away at season end and we get nothing? Not sure why we held on with the season likely going nowhere, I know lots of baseball left and anything can happen but odds are against us playing in October. Would seem like they could take any halfway reasonable offer and get something then give a couple young arms a tryout the rest of the year Hoping this helps seal Jed's fate and he's fired at the end of the year (or tomorrow, OR TODAY!).
The construction of this roster is just so underwhelming. At the very least, as you say, you clear out the roster and see what you have in the minors. Maybe you have nothing in the minors... but at least then you'll know.
PCA speed, defense rookie not underwhelming Bellinger speed, defense not underwhelming Swanson defense, power not underwhelming Busch best 1B prospect in a while not underwhelming Hoerner defense, speed, hustle not underwhelming Imanaga certainly not underwhelming Steele see Imanaga Happ solid player, not spectacular, 2 arguable GG, I'll grant you that, but not underwhelming
All building blocks for 2025/26 And they just upgraded 3B with a kid the Cubs drafted a few years ago that IS a ball player.
Big problem continues to be a closer. Team speed is better than ever Team defense was supposed to be good from the start, but.....nobody believes they can keep being that bad.
One run losses should be better
Hindsight is 20/20. So who do you know of that should replace Jed?

even guys like Mastroboni & wisdom, not that you’re likely to get much of anything for them but just know clear them out, they pretty much are what they’re going to be by now. We could bring up a couple younger guys with potentially much higher ceiling

other than PCA and Iminaga those you mentioned were supposed to be building blocks blocks last year for this year so this is kinda what they built. I agree Busch has been a nice addition and I think you should be right about 1 run games, law of averages would presumably have some going our way

I wish they would have moved guys like Tauchman, Wisdom, Mastrobouni, Smyly, Neris for anything possible they could get in return so I'm not happy about that but I don't think this roster is anywhere near as bad as some are making it out to be.
Will they make a run this season , I doubt it , they so far have not shown they can but there is still a lot of baseball left to play and a lot of teams that have been winning but really aren't that good to the point I think they can't be caught.
The moves they did make , I like .
The return on the Leiter deal was more than I8 was expecting them to be able to get.
Both players seem decent with a nice upside and are not too far away from the majors , not sure what they needed with another infielder though but the kid seems pretty good.

Marlins claim Jesus Tinoco off waivers from the Cubs , guess after you trade more than half the team you need to replace guys.

Morel homers in his second at bat as a Ray. I’ve got the worst feeling this will be an all time bad Cubs trade. Great for Morel and wish him all the success in the world.

Tampa Bay coaches turned Isaac's career around and may do the same for Morel. Our coaches are nothing more than cheerleaders. Counsell should have been given the opportunity to pick his own coaching staff.
However, no matter what the future brings it will not be the all time bad Cubs trade. We traded Hall of Famer Lou Brock to the Cardinals for a washed up pitcher named Ernie Broglio, who blew his arm out in spring training.

Ernie Banks hit 512 HR's for the Cubs.
Rafael Palmeiro hit 544 HR's... After we traded him.

actually it’s worse than that Broglio’s arm was hurt late in the previous season before the trade even took place. The turds were aware of it but didn’t disclose anything and the Cubs weren’t aware and no physical prior to finalizing trade. His arm was shot before he even got to the Cubs

I dread the day when the Rays come to Chicago and Morel homers in the top of the ninth to give them a lead and Bigge comes in to strike out the side in the bottom half. Man my coffee just got bitter tasting

Ernie Banks hit 512 HR's for the Cubs. Rafael Palmeiro hit 544 HR's... After we traded him. Yes , but Raffy did "not use steroids period ! " And he never touched Ryno's wife either ! Mitch Williams was one of my favorite Cubs , a lot of people hated him , but I'm not sure why , but I liked him a lot, so the trade wasn't all that bad in my eyes. I do remember the excuse though on why the Cubs traded him , who was the GM then Himes ? Lynch? It was that they didn't think he would hit for power .

Cubs sign Pitcher Josh Staumont to minor league deal.
he'd recently been let go by the Twins
Had some good seasons out of KC's pen in 2020 and 2021 but not so good the last couple years .
This season ERA with the Twins in 25 games 3.70 , velocity is said to be way down as is his K rate.

Sharma puts out article saying that Hoyer "aggressively" pursued O'Hoppe at the deadline and was "repeatedly and firmly rebuffed."
Well, that kind of lends more weight to his statement on air of "trades are harder to make than you would think".
