Stroman not helping his cause the last 2 outing. He needs a good outing his next start. Bumping because he has been TERRIBLE the last 6-7 starts!!! Woof, right now he may opt in next year. Dude has got to focus and get back to pitching well again. I don't think he has the yips but it is going downhill fast for him. As much as I hammer Yes for some decisions it was really wise not to sign him up longterm. He's hoy to prove his worth these last 9-10 starts. We don't make the playoffs without him.

If he doesn't get the ship righted he will most definitely opt in to his player option for next year at 21 million which would not help the Cubs at all. He really does have the ability to turn it around so I'd recommend a 10 day IL (concussion from hitting his head against the wall) & see if the Cubs pitch lab guys can figure it out..

I don't know if something is ailing him and he's not saying , but I don't know how a guy can go from being so good to so bad all of a sudden. Especially a guy like him who's always going over his own performances with a fine toothed comb . I was probably the most vocal on here clammoring for an extension and it would look really horrible right now if they had given him one , but I think we need to just relax and hope he can somehow snap out of this . Come on baseball gods, is it too much to ask for both him and Taillon to pitch well at the same time , it seems they've switched at about the same time .

He mentioned something changed on I believe one of his breaking balls on the London trip so it's not impossible to get it back to the way it was but most likely never back to the mid 2 ERA because that was when his metrics were all out of whack. Hell, I'd take a high 3 ERA for the rest of this year & if he could do that we could make some noise..

Some numbers they reported on ESPN1000..... Stroman has the worst starter ERA in all baseball since London with a 9+ ERA. The next worst ERA, 6.50. I think they said he's giving up something like 30 runs, ouch.... I believe the qualifier was 20 innings.

He's a mid 3 ERA pitcher always has been , sometimes capable of lower 3's so I don't think anybody expected him to be a low 2 ERA guy all the time and it would eventually level out in time. But to go from being so good to so bad so quickly he needs to get it figured out and like others have said maybe a 10 day IL trip to just work on the side is in order, they can't keep trotting him out there if in his present state if they want to make the playoffs.

Per @espnstatsinfo : Stroman allowed 27 earned runs in July over 6 starts. That's the most ER in a calendar month by a Cubs pitcher since Jeff Samardzija (27 ER) in June 2012.

Market correction to get back to career average numbers are tough to watch.

I wonder what's going on with Stroman. So, his last start, he high tailed it out and did NOT make himself available after the game to the media. Yesterday, before the game, David Ross specifically told the media he WILL be available after yesterday's game. I heard the sound bite too, it sounded definitive from the Ross.... well, Stroman high tailed it out again and was NOT there for the media.
Is he injured? Frustrated? Is an IL stint on the horizon? What's up with Stroman? This does not seem like him. Is he mad at the Cubs and wanted a trade? He said some nice things last week about the Cubs and being a Cub, but what's going on with Stro?

I’m just hoping they have him miss a start & spend time with the pitch lab guys because this can be fixed. Not back to the low 2 ERA because his metrics didn’t suggest that would last but a mid 3-1/2 would work..

That is something we all like to know, he usually has a swagger and very lively on the mound and for the past month he has not been that way. His stuff has just been flat with very little movement, if it is mechanic problem then it is oddly strange for over a month he has been unable to correct it, especially for a veteran who has his fair share of ups and down in the majors. I get there is going to be bad starts but thhis is different. He is also very vocal on social media never holding anything back and always engaging with fans but even that has disappeared too. So makes you wonder something personally in his life is happening where he lost total focus on baseball or what he was doing the league finally caught up to him which could be the case but usually he adjusted after a couple bad starts. It is like the real Stroman was abducted by aliens.

Stro seems to have outbursts when he feels disrespected by the team he is/was playing for. It's not all identical but follows a pattern of sorts: 1. At the 2019 TDL he lashed at the Jays for trading him, right or wrong. 2. In May he lashed out at the Mets dugout but I am not sure of the real reason. 3. Since he has been the subject of trade rumors and no extension he has been vocal on social media and now this. Not sure what is going on.

Jesse Rogers said yesterday that there is something bothering him, but didn't specify physical, mental, or both. From what he was hinting it sounded physical, perhaps something associated with the blister that he's been struggling with. He made it sound like perhaps an IL stint could be in the future, but not guaranteed; maybe he's trying to fight through it for the sake of the team. Additionally, we all know that the mental game is big with Stroman. Perhaps the recent struggles compounded with the trade deadline and lack of extension, or vice versa, have gotten to him.
Personally, I don't like the look of not meeting the media, but at the same time I don't much care. It's a silly distraction right now. It would be better if he just made a statement that he's struggling and doesn't want to talk at the moment. Taillon has met the media every time, even when getting shelled as he did early on this season. I will say that had Stro not been so public in trying to make his case for an extension I wouldn't care at all. But to be so vocal at one point and disappear during another isn't a good look in my eyes.

I'd go with frustrated and also maybe something is going on injury wise that he doesn't want out there because I can't explain why he went from great to shit so quickly. I'm sure he did not want to handle all the trade rumor questions and questions about why he's struggling. I don't think he wanted to be traded , he's repeatedly said he wants to stay and said he knows Belly wants to stay . Something yesterday popped up in my browswer that I didn't fall for the clickbait title because it was so absurd , but it was <<Is Stroman pitching bad on purpsose to avoid being traded>> He probably doesn't want to deal with idiots like that in the press because he knows he will speak his mind and probably end up in trouble over it.

Stroman going to the IL with right hip inflammation, per Jesse Rogers.

I don't know if it is really his hip or just need a mental break but glad it happened.
Hopefully he gets better and can help out the 2nd half of August as he is needed.

Just as we discussed during the start on Monday. An injury has surfaced.

I think it's legit , and it makes sense because you don't go from being so good to so shitty for no reason and he said he's been trying to compensate and change things ....... <<Stroman said he’s been feeling the hip issue “for a bit now.” As the ailment lingered, it gradually got worse and started affecting his mechanics on the mound to the point where he couldn’t fire his glute or quad, and he started compensating with his upper body. “I've been trying to change mechanics and do a lot of things, honestly, to get around it,” Stroman said. “It’s just at the point where I couldn't do too much more to change and feel like I wasn't throwing at like 140, 150 percent out there. “I felt like I had to do so much, essentially just throwing all upper body and arms," added Stroman. "I think it was at a point where taking a break and getting in the weight room and doing what I need to do, I feel like, is just going to springboard me and put me where I was -- and where I need to be.”>>

Gonna bump this to gage some opinions.
Mine: Stro opts in knowing he won't get an extension now based on his injury & inconsistent body of work. Hopefully he comes back strong next year and we deal with the extension question after he has had a good to great season.
