Well deserved based on the slide he made into second. I didn't see the brushback pitch though that I heard happened earlier.

It's about time somebody clocked him. His arrogance is becoming off the charts. I'm getting tired of all the baseball guys on tv standing up for him though. The bat flip last fall, if anybody else did it they'd be ripping on them, but most said they were ok with him doing it because of the situation and he showed emotion and passion and now everybody is making Odor out to be the bad guy when Bautista initiated this. He didn't throw a punch but he slid in late and hard and then popped up and came at him kind of challenging him to do something. |

It was a retaliation for his bat flip last year. Texas waited until they were in Texas and it was the last game they played this year with each other. |

It's about time somebody clocked him. His arrogance is becoming off the charts. I'm getting tired of all the baseball guys on tv standing up for him though. The bat flip last fall, if anybody else did it they'd be ripping on them, but most said they were ok with him doing it because of the situation and he showed emotion and passion and now everybody is making Odor out to be the bad guy when Bautista initiated this. He didn't throw a punch but he slid in late and hard and then popped up and came at him kind of challenging him to do something. I have to disagree on just about everything. I loved the bat flip and wish we saw more of it(obviously there are limits, don't do it down 7 rubs in the 8th inning). You were a huge Sosa fan, I honestly don't see the hop as being any better. As for Odor, you never punch a guy no matter what he did. Be the bigger person and walk away. |

In Odor's defense it did look like Bautista was going to do something, Odor just did it much faster and more decisively.

Jerm, I have no issue with guys flipping the bat, but Bautista paused, glared and looked around then obnoxiously pretty much threw it, not just flipped it.
Sosa's hop was something he did all the time when he got one, it wasn't anything even comparable to what Bautista did last year.
I'm not saying punching a guy is the right thing to do, but there was no way Odor was going to let Bautista intimidate him on that play and thats exactly what he was attempting to do, to walk away from that would have been cowardly.
I'm just tired of the Bautista love from on air baseball personalities and Bautista's arrogance, if any other player is doing the things he does they would be raked over the coals for it.

What Bautista did would be considered assault "in real life", also. He maliciously went after the fielder with intent. He was upset about being drilled by Bush, a direct result of his showboating during last years playoffs. A drilling was in his future and he should have been expecting it. Bautista and his retaliatory one up manship is at fault. He was called out and he decided that the fiasco wasn't finished yet. Now it is. Or is it..... Would love to see these two teams face each other in the playoffs. If not, wait til next year. Feels good to say that and not be referring to the Cubs. As far as your video example goes, apples and oranges. One incident was within the game, while the other was during the "post game". I do agree what the boxer did was criminal. |

If we analyze this as stated that Texas retaliated for the bat flip & stare down last year then my thoughts are as follows: At the time of the bat flip in 2015 it was still a no-no in baseball to do that - so he can pretty much expect a retaliation. If the retaliation took place yesterday when he was hit by the pitch then that was the payback & by baseball standards it would be viewed as acceptable. Now yesterday when Jose slid hard (& illegally by today's rules), the 2nd. baseman took issue with it & this became a "New situation" that the 2nd. baseman reacted to by hitting Jose & he will undoubtedly be severely punished for it which is how it should be.. So I guess in my mind the incident with the punch being thrown was in reaction to a dangerous slide - period & in the heat of the moment he took issue with it & hit him.. |

My take on it is that both guys are notorious jaggies. One has always acted like a thug while the other is a repeat offender of being an overly aggressive, arrogant, jaggie. Personally I liked seeing Bautista clocked. As for the play.
I applaud the Rangers for doing this ( plunking Bautista) at the end of the last game these two teams will play. Moving forward this wont escalate. And if Toronto wants to retaliate itll be next year or in the playoffs which would be dumb. IMO this was a very strategic action by Texas. If baseball does truly " police itself" like a lot of players ( including ours) perceive. Then his little bat flip, arrogant action, and stare down did require a plunking. It wasnt a head hunt or heat to the kneecap. It was a new guy ( Bush) trying to win over his peers and putting one in the appropriate plunking area. And they did it while Bautista still had the chance to be the winning run. So stupid act for Bautista again for illegally going for a guys legs in that situation. He had to know he was gonna get rung up for an illegal slide.
Now Bautista basically admitted himself in the post game that he slid with malicious intent because he got plunked. That wont help his case whenever this is reviewed. Unfortunately a guy like Odor isnt the kind of guy whos gonna take it. So he shoved him. Then Bautista marches toward him and puts up his dukes. Unfortunately Odor is a lot faster and hit him with a hay maker in the pie hole. Anyone saying that was assault in the real world needs to do some research. If a street camera sees a guy marching at me with his dukes up and I knock him out. Not only am I clean and free but the other guy gets the assault charge. I assume Odor will say this was self defense when this is reviewed and he may get compassion in those regards.
Both guys are repeat offenders and both will get whatever they deserve. Hopefully its a lot more similar ( suspensions) than some of you think it should.

Well I don't think Texas planned to do anything to him on the bases, the HBP was the payback in their eyes and then Bautista did what he did which made Odor react the way he did .
If it's another Toronto player making that slide other than Bautista we may not see the same reaction from Odor.
While a lot of players in the league respect Bautista, I think his arrogance in recent years is changing how a lot of players feel about him. DeRosa was on MLB saying he knows him well, he was a teammate of his and he's a nice guy but a lot of players in the league are getting tired of his constant complaining to the umps about pitches and his showboating home runs etc.
