Players never policed themselves? Really?

"If baseball does truly " police itself" like a lot of players ( including ours) perceive." I think baseball USED to police itself, but guys have gotten way too soft and sensitive for it. Instead of you get me, I get you back and now it's over, it's now become you get me, I get you, you get me back ,now I get you back, and it's like it never ends. If the plunking was getting back for the bat flip last year, then the it should have been over. Instead, Bautista being too sensitive gets the rangers back again by sliding into second. Anytime a pitcher pitches inside and hits someone teams automatically assume it was intentional (Arrietta hitting Kang last week) and it sparks the whole cycle. I don't think baseball can police itself anymore because they are so hyper sensitive to everything. I completely agree, which is why the league still has to bring down suspensions. Some of their suspension were bullshit but thats what they do. Odor deserves his 8 gamer although had he missed I wonder if it would be less. Or had he let Bautista take the first swing ( which he was rearin up for) would it be less? I dont understand the 3 gamer on the Jays manager. I think thats total nonsense. And I definitely dont understand how Bautista isnt lookin at 2-3 himself. The jays manager had been earlier ejected from the game. Returning to the field during the game is not allowed and must be punished.

It's about time somebody clocked him. His arrogance is becoming off the charts. I'm getting tired of all the baseball guys on tv standing up for him though. The bat flip last fall, if anybody else did it they'd be ripping on them, but most said they were ok with him doing it because of the situation and he showed emotion and passion and now everybody is making Odor out to be the bad guy when Bautista initiated this. He didn't throw a punch but he slid in late and hard and then popped up and came at him kind of challenging him to do something. A players arrogance is not justification to clock him. As far as the slide was concerned, there was no ruling of an inappropriate slide. Odor could have also just turned and walked away and let the ump do his job.

Players never policed themselves? Really? No, they only claimed to police themselves. Vigilante violence is not policing. When each individual has his own standard of "justice"... that is not policing. The policeman have always been the umpires. Policeman are to intervene when the laws are broken. Players want to intervene because their feelings got hurt.

Yeah sure a fine maybe....Or one game tops. 3 games is a frickin joke. If he stays in the clubhouse he loses the respect of his entire team. Its his job to protect his guys. He got more games than guys who threw punches.

I suppose that you think hockey players don't police themselves either?

"A bat flip is not balanced by a fastball in the ribs or a punch." Agreed. However, if Bautista doesn't take a run at Odor, there probably is no punch.

I was just listening to something on TV. Yes it pertained to this issue that for some reason is still being discussed. Derosa asked " Does Odor gets 8 games if he misses his punch and if thats fair policy". It got me thinking about last year when Sean Rodriguez took a cut at Ross and missed terribly, although he didnt miss that poor cooler. Rodriguez didnt even miss one single game. IMO thats where its a bit messed up. The intent was there but the ability wasnt. Should Odor get that many just because he knows how to throw a punch? Or is baseball just doing this because it is being overly discussed?
