I've always said that Baez is his own worst enemy. Personally I think making him the centerpiece of a lineup and expecting (paying) him to carry it was a mistake and will only make him play in a way that emphasizes his flaws in his (over)aggressiveness at the plate. Had he gone to a team with a couple of other solid contributors where he could fall in line and do his thing (like in NY) he'd have done better, but you don't get paid that money to be a piece. As it is he's in a situation where he's going to try to carry the team on his shoulders, and that cannot possibly work out. Even in his best seasons of 2018 and 2019 he was never considered THE guy in the lineup, with more of the focal point on Rizzo and KB, which I think benefited him greatly.

He better get bouncing soon. From that linked story. <<Javy Baez is *clears throat* 156th out of 157 qualifying players in OBP and 153rd out of 157 qualifying players in slugging. This makes him dead last in MLB in OPS by a wide margin.>> Javy's been getting boo'd by the Tigers fans. Sucks for him. He obviously didn't like that very much in New York. He's going through a funk, but it's a matter of time with his talent.
Javy is the same as before, just will not lay off of the low & outside pitch. If he ever did the pitchers would have to throw him strikes but I fear he never will & that’s too bad..

I only liked Baez for his D and base running. Figured both would fade in a couple of years with leg injuries. Never a fan of his offense but didn't expect it to be this bad. Actually thought Detroit would be a decent place for him to focus on the whole field. Rizzo seems on par with how he performed during his last couple of years as a Baby Bear. KB's contract will likely be an albatross if back issues remain. Javy was fun to watch , especially on D and the bases . At the plate I figured he settled in to be an all or nothing .250 type guy since he no longer seemed to be the guy we saw in his near MVP season when he was pushing .300 but I did not think he'd struggle to even be a .300 OBP guy . Bryant , I loved but I got tired of the amount of games he'd either miss, be late scratches from , be "sick" or play and struggle while not being 100% , it seemed he was seldom at 100% , it was always something with him and now some major back issues. But both I will still root for and want to see do well. Rizzo I loved but kind of soured on over the whole contract thing so I really could not care less what he does. As sad as it was to see them all go , so far , no real regrets it's happened , especially when you look at Beaz turned into Crow-Armstrong, Bryant turned into Kilian and Canario and Rizzo turned into Alcantara and the Cubs are not paying those guys over 60 million this year and are not on the hook for 14 years worth of contracts costing them 360 million they can spend elsewhere. Oh man.. Did the Cubs sell at the absolute highest point possible on Kimbrel or what? He is just stinking it up terribly in LA just as he did last year after the White Sox paid their steep price at the deadline. Thank you Cubs!

I'm not sure what his problem is but the man was unhittable for the Cubs last season and I thought when he got out of the grasp of Larussa's miss use he'd bounce back with L A and he has not. So far the Cubs don't have much to show for the trade though. Madrigal can't seem to get going and or stay off the IL but in the long run should be ok and Hauer looked good before he got hurt and hopefully comes back strong.

Albert Almora gets over-looked when it comes to ex-Cubs. He was the 1st player Epstein and Hoyer drafted when they took control. He was the 6th overall pick in the 2012 draft.

True, but I was pretty much listing the guys that were dealt at the deadline plus higher profile guys like Yu and Schwarber. It's good to see Albert back in the bigs and getting some decent playing time with the Reds and he's doing ok , still OBP challenged though. 128 pa's 5hr 22 rbi's .276 avg .291 obp .747 ops

I could be wrong , but I'm going to say no. I just quickly looked up the 2021 draft when he was drafted and no mention of him being the son of an ex player which they usually include in the little blurbs.

He got his contract, so no sweat off his back I expect him to play great whenever he's 100% healthy. Man that seems familiar.

Interesting thing I just read and I'm not a huge fan of WAR because there is no universal calculation , but since the day Wisdom was called up he has a 3.2 WAR while Bryant's in that time is 0.7

I don't know that Wisdom sticks for years with the Cubs but with his salary & production he really is the 3rd. baseman we need through this down period..

Since the trade (or callup?) Wisdom is like 2.4 WAR and Bryant 0.4 WAR (or close to this).

Baez last 10 games: .341/.370/.727/1.097 with 4 HR, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 SBs. He's still playing GG D at SS as well. Baez is finally playing a LOT better. .800 OPS in June (.798) not too shabby either.
Rizzo also having a really good June, just under a .900 OPS with 9 HR.
Good to see KB back on the field.
For me, I'm just watching Baez and KB as those were the 2 guys I wanted the Cubs to extend after 2016. I'm keeping a decent eye on Schwarber, just because I like him and want him to do well. Everyone else I don't care much, I wish them well, but not watching much.

Rizzo by the power numbers you see is having a very good year and I know they count because they happened , but 7 of his 13 Yankee stadium home runs would have been outs or just an extra base hit in Wrigley so he's in the right place for where his game is at. And when they ban the shift next season that batting average should pick back up hopefully. I hated to see KB hurt , I really want to see his numbers in a full year in Colorado

Kris Bryant back on the IL after almost getting hit by a pitch (s)
Just remembered about how he needed multiple off days after almost getting hit some years back. 😅

They still wouldn't be winning anything and would be handcuffed by contracts.
