June 29th1897 The Chicago Colts (Cubs) of the National League establish the record for most runs scored in a game by one team when they clobber the Louisville Colonels, 36-7. 1909 Walter Johnson gives up a solo homer to Ray Demmitt in the 7th, the first home run he’s allowed since his debut in 1907. 1937 Ripper Collins does not make a putout during the nine-inning game. Although this is just the third occurrence of the rare feat, it is the second time for the Cubs infielder, who also didn’t make a putout playing first for the Cardinals in a game played against the Braves two seasons ago. 1961 Mays becomes 4th player to hit 3 homeruns in a game twice in a season. 1969 Billy Williams breaks the NL record for consecutive games played held previously by Stan Musial (896) 1977 Willie Stargell hits his 400th career. 1990 Dave Stewart and Fernando Valenzuela become first pitchers to throw no-hitters on same day. Ah a sweet swingin Billy Williams reference. Love everything about that man! Love most of 1969, except the end of the bb season. What a great year otherwise though. As a kid I made a small "Go Billy!" sign out of cardboard one year when we vacationed in Chicago. We sat in the upper deck. I don't think he saw it.

June 30th
1908 Cy Young pitches the third no-hitter of his career.
1913 The same ball is used for the entire game in the Reds’ 9 – 6 win over the Cubs.
1948 Bob Lemon no-hits the Tigers at Briggs Stadium.
1959 At Wrigley Field, a bizarre play occurs in the 4th inning when two balls are put into play. On a 3 – 1 count, Bob Anderson’s pitch to Stan Musial is wild and bounces back to the screen. Catcher Sammy Taylor ignores the ball, assuming it ticked off Musial’s bat, but Cubs 3B Alvin Dark rushes in to retrieve the wild pitch/foul tip. The bat boy tosses the ball to field announcer Pat Piper, and Dark finally retrieves it from him. Meanwhile home plate ump Vic Delmore has handed a second ball to Anderson. Through all this, Musial reaches first with what he thinks is ball four, and then streaks for second base. Simultaneously, Dark and Anderson fire to the bag. Anderson’s throw goes into CF, but Dark’s to Ernie Banks catches the sliding Musial. Stan ignores the tag and rambles to third base as play is stopped. Delmore then rules Musial is out at second, while Al Barlick rules Stan safe at first base. Both managers play the game under protest, but the Cards drop theirs after dropping the Cubs, 4 – 1. The National League will drop Vic Delmore at the end of the season.
1962 Sandy Koufax pitches his first no-hitter.
1978 Willie McCovey becomes the 12th player in major league history to hit 500 home runs.

1909 The White Sox steal 12 bases. Three are steals of home for a modern major league record.
1912 Boston's Larry Gardner legs out two inside-the-park homers
1941 Joe DiMaggio sets a new major league record by hitting in his 45th consecutive game.
1972 Cubs turn a triple play on a groundball to Ron Santo to Glenn Beckert to Jim Hickman.
1993 At Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium, the latest game in major league history ends at 4:40 am as relief pitcher Mitch Williams, in his first at-bat of the season, singles home the winning run.
1999 Umpire Tom Hallion is suspended for three games for his actions during an argument with Colorado catcher Jeff Reed and coach Milt May on June 26th. The dispute began when Rockies pitcher Mike DeJean complained to third base umpire Terry Tata about a check-swing call while walking to his dugout, and home plate ump Hallion told him to get in the dugout. Hallion bumped Reed and May during the ensuing dispute. Officials cannot recall another suspension of an umpire for an on-field dispute. In 1990, National League president Bill White was prepared to suspend umpire Joe West for slamming Philadelphia pitcher Dennis Cook to the field, but commissioner Fay Vincent intervened and no discipline was imposed.

That is too early for me to remember, but I do remember regularly seeing pitchers pitch complete games. Kind of took it for granted in those days. I would have been shocked at that point to hear how rare it would become.
