1933 For the first time in major league history, brothers on opposite teams hit home runs in the same game. Boston Red Sox catcher Rick Ferrell homers off his brother Wes Ferrellin the 2nd inning, but the Cleveland Indians pitcher returns the favor as he homers in the 3rd on a pitch called by his sibling. It is the only time that the Ferrell brothers homer in the same game.
1971 Billy Williams hits 2 home runs and drives in 6 runs. Glenn Beckert has 4 hits and 2 runs scored and Fergie Jenkins pitches a complete game to defeat the Giants and Steve Stone.
2008 Jon Lester, diagnosed with a rare form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma two seasons ago, no-hits the Royals, 7-0, becoming only the third lefty in franchise history to throw a no-no at Fenway Park. The 24-year-old's batterymate, Jason Varitek, also makes the record books by being the first backstop to catch four no-hitters in the majors.

Kelly then pulls off the hidden ball trick in the 9th inning to preserve the win for the Chicago White Stockings.
1919 Babe Ruth hits the first of his 16 career grand slams.
1920 The Chicago police, dressed as soldiers and farmers, raid the Wrigley Field bleachers, arresting two dozen Cub fans for gambling. All bets are off when Grover Cleveland Alexander blanks Philadelphia, 6-0.

1880. lol, would love to see this. funny too, Pike hits it into river
In Albany’s Riverside Park, Lip Pike hits a ball over the wall and into the river. RF Lon Knight begins to go after the ball in a boat but gives up. Few parks have ground rules about giving the batter an automatic home run on a hit over the fence.
1901 be no umps left if his happened in todays game.
Giants owner Andrew Freedman accuses umpire Billy Nash of incompetence and bars him from the Polo Grounds. The Pirates’ Chief Zimmer and the Giants’ John Warner are forced to officiate.
1908 Cubs 1907 World Championship banner raised.
1943 At Comiskey Park, it takes only one hour and twenty-nine minutes for the White Sox to defeat the Senators, 1-0. its the quickest nine-inning game ever played in the American League.
1952 The Dodgers score a major league record fifteen first-inning runs en route to a 19-1 rout over the Reds at Ebbets Field. After Ewell Blackwell retires the first batter, the next 19 Brooklyn batters reached base (10 hits, seven walks, and two HBP), including Captain Pee Wee Reese getting to first base three times during the frame.
2000 Major League Baseball has its first six grand-slam day in less than a year after establishing the mark with five, with Garret Anderson (Angels), J.T. Snow (Giants), Brian Hunter (Phillies), Jason Giambi (A's), and Adrian Beltre and Shawn Green (Dodgers) all contributing to the record. The NL also set a league record, blasting four of the six base-loaded homers.

BTW, as has been said, besides the game threads this is the best thread on this board. Thanks for starting it.

How unlikely was it that Roger Maris set the mark for intentional walks in a game and then Andre Dawson broke the same record 28 years later on the exact same date? But yet it happened that way. Clearly Joe Sewell was playing the game wrong only striking out 4 times in 524 at bats. They would certainly "fix" him in todays game.

Its amazing to me when you hear a player only striking out in this case 4 times in a season with that many plate appearances. today, players reach 4k's in one game

Yeah, striking out used to be unacceptable to the players and of course you tried to make sure you had some kind of contact. Now it is just a byproduct of the current game with no stigma attached.

1890 The Giants and the Pittsburgh Alleghenys established a National League record when the teams combine to steal seventeen bases in a single game. New York will win the Polo Grounds contest, 17-10.
1901 Scoring nine runs in the bottom of the ninth at Cleveland's League Park, the Blues, later known as the Indians, stun the Senators, 14-13. The incredible comeback, which consists of six singles, two doubles, a walk, a hit batsman, and a passed ball, comes after two outs.
1962 Joe Pepitone homers twice to become the second player in Yankee history to hit two home runs in the same inning when the Bronx Bombers score nine times in the eighth inning of a 13-7 rout of Kansas City. In 1936 as a rookie, Joe DiMaggio became the first pinstriper to accomplish the feat.
1965 Mets' outfielder Ron Swoboda takes his position wearing a batting helmet - on his foot. After kicking the protective headgear, which gets stuck on his spikes, manager Casey Stengel ordered the young player to go out to the field.
1991 With his fourth-inning swipe of second base at Shea Stadium, Andre Dawson becomes the third member of the 300/300 club, with his 300th stolen base. The 36-year-old Cubs outfielder, who has also hit 354 home runs, joins Bobby Bonds and Willie Mays in reaching the milestone.
