May 10 2016 Cubs defeat the Padres 8-7 to go 25-6 for the season. Ben Zobrist goes 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored and a couple RBI. Such a fun season, there was never a real threat to the Cubs in that division. I think the Cardinals got within 6 games in June at one point and then Cubs got red hot and that was it.

Well, I remember 2 of the 3, particularly Mantle. 500 home runs was really a big deal back then.

A propos considering the dislike many of us have to the man on second in tie game scenario: On this date the Cubs played their longest game in franchise history in 1927 when they beat the Boston Braves 4-3 in 22 innings. Boston pitcher Bob Smith pitched all 22 innings in the loss. www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BSN/BSN192705170.shtml

Self inflicted as it was, it saddens me when I think of Addison Russell. The kid seemed to have a bright future and it all came tumbling down because he couldn't keep his hands off his girlfriend. Feel bad for his girlfriend, his child and for a career flushed down the drain. Not sure if he ever would have lived up to expectations but the abuse seemed to seal the deal on his career.

For the LOLs, I looked up Allan Travers on baseball reference.com. His career ERA was 15.75.....of course it could have been a lot worse since 10 of the runs he gave up were unearned.

I was just thinking about him the other day and how he was probably the first casualty in the dynasty that was supposed to be. Such a shame, but not the first to be his own worst enemy.
