Unlike Sandberg's wife, Mrs. Zobrist as a professional singer is in a circle of celebrities and fans outside of baseball. A good detective might first want to look there.

Come on everybody this is getting stupid, we all know Daniel Descalso banged Zobrist wife. duh... I doubt he has the coordination to pull it off. That gave me the best laugh of the day. Thank you.

CONSPIRACY THEORY WARNING....this is just a thought
Ok, slow baseball time and a thought just crossed my mind. Who was Mrs. Zobrist caught banging?
My pea brain thinks it is someone she and Ben knew..someone very close to the team...someone on the team?
Someone who was quickly whisked away to show respect for Ben.
Someone who is seemingly banished until Ben retires.
.......Mr. Ian Happ?
😂😂😂

And what if the Cubs front office knew they needed a closer (Kimbrel) but the only way to afford him was if someone (Zobrist) took time off on the restricted list?
My little conspiracy theory is that the Cubs setup someone to bang Zobrist's wife and for Zobrist to find out about it... thus allowing the Cubs to sign Kimbrel.
Tin foil hat time!
My internal fact checker gives this one a "partially true"

If that’s the case there’s some other people they should force to the restricted list lol

This entire Zobrist thing is weird now to me at this point. I can't understand why he's STILL away from baseball. I don't know the details, but it seems odd that it's taking this long.

Because he is a millionaire who doesn’t need to work and probably wants to focus on his kids (maybe getting custody)

There has to be some truth to that, I do think they had the payroll to sign Kimbrel even if Zobrist was still playing, BUT they would have no room left for mid season deals, so now the longer Zobrist is out the more money the team saves and can use toward deadline deals. So techicaly Theo can say the Kimbrel signing has nothing to do with Zobrist situation and be telling the truth.

In a way they don't, but in a way they do. Had Ben still been here the Kimbrel move probably still could have been made, but it empties the deadline budget. Now with Ben gone they made a major move that is probably bigger than any move a team makes before the deadline and now still have some leeway to do something at the deadline. So really having Ben away affects the deadline more so than the Kimbrel signing.

I've never seen anyone miss time this much over a divorce battle even with kids involved. Obviously he has no intention of retiring or he would have already.

I think it's more baseball related than family related, not to knock Zobrist, but if he comes back around 9/1 then that's no coincidence. Also, an addition of Merrifield, if the Cubs pulled that off, would have no impact on Zobrist because Merrifield plays OF as well.

How many millionaires close to retirement have you followed through divorce cases?

The Cubs were always holding money in the budget for mid-season. That's why it was not available in the off season.

I expect him too after the season, but he likely wants another chance at the post season before he does.
