Heads up to anyone with t mobile. Free year of MLB.tv can be redeemed starting this Tuesday. I saw that ad. Is it just for new subscribers? I have T Mobile now but don't have to renew for a while.

Not sure. On Tuesday, you can try redeeming the offer in t mobiles T life app. In the process of redeeming you log into your mlb account. I've gotten it every year for the past few years. Not sure what happens if you're already subscribed.

I've had little to no problem with it. Usually if I'm having signal issues every carrier is having signal issues. Like Wilmington, IL. Pick up there from work and every carrier struggles there. Get free stuff all year and mlb.tv is the big one at the start of Baseball season. I do believe they do something similar with mlb for their season too but don't remember.

Cubs release CJ Edwards and Dominic Smith.
CJ was blowing chunks this spring despite his ERA so I’m not mad. I was at those games.

Montgomery is likely much better than who they would be able to acquire at the trade deadline with of course having him for a longer time period. Assume Montgomery misses the first month. Not sure the Cubs are viewed contenders by their own front office as they have given themselves the ability to get back under the self imposed soft salary cap if the season goes awry. Montgomery would have been a nice get and would have provided valuable and productive innings at a one year cost without mortgaging parts of the future that a trade deadline deal would cost.

He missed spring training for that, too? Worst agent of the offseason. Worst offseason for any agent in recent memory? He must really be selling the "bet on yourself" schtick to his clients What's funny is the Dodgers are the team that got screwed the most by this unusual twist in the market by paying so freakin much compared to other teams.

From your viewpoint about the deadline , yes I kind of wish the Cubs would have done this. But I don't think they were ever seriously considering 4 lefties in the rotation and Wicks sure seems ready and capable of a Montgomery type season (career 3.68 ERA) . I guess they could have maybe piggybacked Wicks coming in Assad's starts and kept him with the club . I'm not too upset they missed out here, I understand the luxury tax line dance and since Ricketts a few times said they don't really want to get into being over more than 2 years in a row to acrue bigger penalties, I'd rather wait for that 2 year time to be in a season they are already legit contenders , not in a season where they are still a team who could go either way.

Update: 1/25 wow!! boras is not winning agent of the year award Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of players flocking to this guy to be their agent. What makes it even sadder is the Yankees and RedSox , espcially the Yankees after the Cole news were both said to still be interested in him and this is the best deal Boras got him. I'll be surspised if one of the Boras 4 doesn't drop him , Belli still got a decent contract with the options he has and the money and the destination he wanted, but how can he give the other 3 advise on next years market and what he can get them and make them believe it , especially Montgomery who really had no red flags, he was just grossly over priced as an ace when he's never been one.

I very much doubt that the Cubs had any interest in having 4 lefty starting pitchers this year and more likely Montgomery choose a team with a good chance at making the playoffs again in the DBacks.

I said all along I don't think they were ever really in on Montgomery after they landed Imanaga. I think it was all blogger/website clickbait crap that we kept seeing .

I have a feeling all this missed time is going to have a negative impact on Montgomery. I don't think he has a great season, but that's my opinion.

I'm sure he's been trying to go through his own spring training routine but it's not the same and I'd imagine it takes what probably a month before he makes an actual start in a major league game. And having a bad season sure isn't going to help him get a good contract next winter. I wonder who's idea it was , his or Boras to be seeking a contract that topped what Nola got. You seek 170+ and long term security and you end up with 1/25 , not a good outcome anyway you look at it.

Gerrit Cole also has an opt out after this season and he's a Boras guy. Not sure how the injury will play out, but he's got 4/144 remaining at age 34.
