Don’t hold him back. Day one centerfielder. The floor will play, the energy and personality will play, and he can learn alongside the best coaches and players this organization has to offer. Gimme that blue haired speedy boy.

Another sign the Cubs are going young. Morel 3b PCA CF Busch/Mervis/Wisdom 1b/DH Could be, if Morel can take 3rd then that will likely open up the DH spot to sign somebody like Belt to a 1 year deal to be the Lefthanded bat and let Canario/Wisdom face the lefties. Belt bated .254/.369/.490 with a 138 WRC+ last season but did come with a major red flag and that is a 34.9% SO% which is far and beyond career average of 24.5%.

I went into this off-season hoping Morel would be given a shot at 3b. I than looked at his career minor league inning totals and he had ample opportunity to prove he had an ability to play 3b or anywhere defensively for that matter. Applaud Counsell for giving him an opportunity there but I am not optimistic for him to claim the spot. Spring training is the perfect time of year to do this as it is a rather meaningless month with exception of trying stuff like this out. I hope Morel improves his consistency offensively. Morel was very hot and cold, at times completely unplayable. Though that being said, this may be the year to give him consistent playing time at DH or wherever if more signings do not occur. Hope Morel makes it as he is very likeable and engaging with the fans. He is the type of player who is easy to root for.

Or even for the pro Bellinger crowd I feel like that route now makes more sense than it did previously. Granted Morel still has to prove he can field the position well enough but it always felt like him or Busch at third was the lynchpin to a lot of other possibilities. For me I’m just glad to hear a willingness to try. Test his athleticism and drive, let him prove he can or can’t do it rather than just assuming he can’t. If he can prove being adequate then it feels like the best case scenario to me.

They said if he can get hit footwork straightened around he has the athleticism to be a very good defender. I am rooting for him.

Good to hear it finally. Makes total sense and this could be a real plus if he doesn't let the worries of fielding the position affect his hitting. I think being such a high energy guy not sitting on the bench waiting to hit could help him be more in tune with the game. I was hoping they would do this but it was not sounding like they would and that baffled me.
