He let the Phillies know he'd be open to an extension, Lol
He's signed through 2031 already and will be I think 39 when his contract runs out , what a tool .
Why in the world would the Phillies say sure Bryce lets talk.
“Bryce has let me know that he wants to work out an extension so that he knows that he’s going to be there for the remainder of his career….Apart from my advice, he goes, ’I just want to go and make sure that I can recruit players to Philadelphia. I want the fans in Philadelphia to know that I’m going to be there for the duration and that I’m committed.’ I think he’s been an important voice for them to attract major free agents and other players,” Boras said.
In other words he wants to renegotiate .

So he's signed through 2031 but he needs more years so he can recruit players to the Phillies and let fans know he will be there for them and that he's committed .
Lol , yeah you already are through 2031 so why can't you be doing all that now and for the next 8 years under your current contract?

I also saw there was a mention that it's to lower his AAV luxury tax hit on the team so it helps the team be able to surround him with more talent. very honorable , if true but I really doubt that's the full intention or the intention at all. He was hearing 500 - 600 for Ohtani and I'm sure he started thinking he should have signed a shorter deal and not a 13 year one and now that he sees 10/700 , that 13/ 330 is a clown contract bro.

I don't agree with his request, but "less impressive seasons"? What does that mean?
He was coming back from Tommy John and only posted .293/.401/.900 and got MVP votes and won a Silver Slugger award in 126 games (Tommy John). is postseason was legendary as well especially in the NLDS vs the Braves. Say what you want about Harper, he's a top 5 player in baseball. Haters gonna hate.

Career wise , he does seem to be one of the stars that shines in the playoffs .996 career OPS in 49 playoff games and 16 bombs m can't ask for much more than that. Don't know about top 5 though I'd say Ohtani Acuna Betts Seager Olson Soto Freeman

Less impressive is something I associate with a star player having a 2.4 and a 3.3 war over the last 2 years. Big bat, small glove, injuries. Moving him to first could be a big boost imo.
Wasn't really considering the playoffs. Don't get me wrong - he's a monstah and I wish he was a cub, but his OF defense holds back his value quite a bit. Also, being an OF that has to be placed at the DH spot doesn't help his team. Hate isn't the right word. Top 5 player? Mayyyybe. But if you think his last couple of seasons were among the top 5 in baseball - they were not. By measure of war - they were not by quite a margin.
Reminding me of your Swanson arguments - Shouldn't a 330m player be able to give his team atleast some league average defense? In fact, it looks like Harpers defense is probably worse than Swansons offense. Let go of the hate, Steviepoo *wink*

I thought we are talking top 5 players in the game period, because they don't get paid just for the post season. Just for fun and we will go by 162 game average because a player like Bryce who missed a lot of time it would not be fair to go by season totals. Harper 33 hr 96 rbi's .281 .391 .512 .912 5.0 WAR Acuna 39 hr 97 rbis .282 .381 .537 918 6.2 WAR Seager 30 hr 97 rbi's .292 .361 .512 .873 5.8 WAR Olson 41 hr 111 rbi's .356 .351 .522 .873 5.2 WAR Freeman 28 hr 98 rbi .301 .388 .514 .902 4.8 WAR So they are all pretty close , I'd say maybe Harper can be placed ahead of Freddie , but that's damn close

He needed Tommy John surgery and missed almost half of 2022 and a chunk of 2023. He's not going to accumulate WAR. He still posted a 141 wRC+ in the last 2 seasons which was good for 12th in MLB just behind Acuna at 11th. I get people dislike Harper for many reasons, but at the end of the day, he's top 5 and I can get behind an argument where he's not top 5, but he's definitely top 10. For me it's Judge and Ohtani at the top, everyone is argumentative.

You're literally using Olson and Seager's best season of their careers to Harper's partial season. This is funny. No GM in the baseball is taking Olson over Harper, just stop it. Haters gonna hate.

Lol, made up ? You are the one who usually uses the projected saber stats and not actual ones. BBR has always had a 162 game average line to help judge players fairly on the same amount of games. It's better than judging by season by season when you could have one guy like HARPER playing 99-126 a season the last 2 years and another like Freeman playing 159-161 so me doing this helped Harper look better. Harper will be playing 1b this season , same posotion Olson does , I would bet you a good amount you would be totally wrong that no GM would take him over Harper , yeah , LMAO who wants a guy who hit 54 bombs and drove in 134 runs over Harper who's only driven in more than 100 twice in 12 years .....who would want that No GM ? You can't be fucking serious . And to boot, Olson is 2 years younger and well , not a self centered a-hole , haters gonna hate . late edit , typo on the Olson line .256 avg , not .356

One season... ONE! Dude never hit 40 in his career and he plays 161 games a year. Nope, no GM is taking Olson over Harper just on pure talent alone. Geez, 2 time MVP, postseason beast. All those HRs by Olson only to hit 0 Hrs and slash .250/.294/.544 versus Harper in the postseason. Good one..... haters gonna hate.

I don't have to like a guy and still recognize he's a great player in this game. Harper is one of the best in the game and yes, an argument can be made top 5. What's the issue?

However, not above criticism - again - it's kinda like your argument against Dansby.
Swanson 2023 +4.9 war Harper 2023 +3.3 war
It's nice having signed a guy who gave us 50% better value than Harper last year. 😉
