YouTube and social media sites are littered with Brewer fans complaining about Counsell switching to what they all call the "archrival" Cubs. I've long agreed that is the top rivalry in the division. Nevertheless, a sizeable number of this message board's members seem to think the Cubs' biggest divisional rival is from a town much farther away than Milwaukee.

Regarding Ross and Contreras, despite the lovable “Grandpa Rossy” persona, by all accounts he is a hardass behind the scenes and will get on your ass if you make a mistake or appear to have lazy tendencies. That type of style works with some but Contreras didn’t seem to have the personality to handle that type of feedback so I can see why he wouldn’t like Ross.
I liked Ross but cubs are in a much better position moving forward with Craig at the helm.

Oh I started my comment correctly on the youngsters being in high regard with him & wandered from there so it wasn't me misunderstanding you, it was me getting different ideas 1/2 way through. Happens a lot.. If I thought Alonso could go back to hitting .250 I'd warm up to that trade & his 150 OPS+ that would come with it. I really don't think they go after Belli now & if you look hard at that first link in 2-miles post that I bumped up onto page 29 here "Theanlyst" it is a pretty scary read when they compare Belli to every other great hitter - it's not even close.. Well, that and the 12 year - 1/4 billion that he/they want.. I think they do give Mervis another extended shot along with Canario because "IF" they can get one of those two along with PCA to really contribute this year & moving forward there are our 2 new all stars that cost you a total of 1.5 million a year for the next few which frees up the $250,000,000 per year to fill out the team and THAT team should be able to compete for our 2nd. & 3rd. WS title.. I've said this before , regarding Bellinger and what some say are red flags over hard hit rate , exit velocity and him being "lucky" as a hitter in 2023 and mentioning he got better because of the banning of the shift etc . People who are saying this more than likely are looking at stat cast numbers etc and didn't watch his at bats and the shift is still banned so I don't even know the point of bringing that up. The guy a lot of times hit balls where it looked like he almost places it in a hole , he wasn't swinging to drive it over or off the wall , he was trying to just get a hit and vut down on his swing and poked balls into play , not on accident or thats all he could do , but on purpose, and that's going to affect hhr and ev numbers you see on a spread sheet. If they can't sign Belli then I could MAYBE see them give Mervis another shot and that's only if they also sign a guy like Turner who could play there everyday if Mervis struggles. I'd love to see Mervis get the chance , I just have my doubts he does. I hope you’re right (if he signs with us (for 6-132 that is) but if he really does get anywhere near the 12 year 1/4 billion deal I really don’t think it will be with the Cubs. Candelario might be had for 3-56 with an opt-out after year 2 & that might be much better than Turner if he’s healthy so that’s an option. As you mentioned before, it’s doubtful the White Sox Robert would be obtainable but if they’d make PCA & 1 more good prospect available. A steep price but he could be a real difference maker. We’ll see soon enough.

When you look at available closers, Hader is younger than most. The Cubs did give Kimbrel a sizable contract a few years back so they have done it before. Hader only converted a tick under 85% of his save opportunities last year which might be why his WAR is not too high this year. I don't know, 20 mil per x 5 or 6 years would really suck if he loses it AND we lose our 2nd. round draft pick. In extra innings, a relief pitcher can get credited with a blown save or a loss but the run is unearned so I'm not sure save percentage or W-L is an accurate way to judge someone. The Padres were 2-12 in extra inning games last year. Hader did have a 1.28 ERA last year and he has remained healthy which was a major problem with the Cubs bullpen.

It's a strange thing and people view it all in different ways. Maybe some feel the Brewers haven't been in the same division long enough because they still remember them as the WSox biggest rival and I don't think there is quite the hatred for them that there is with STL who most Cubs fans seem to hate because STL fans feel they are better than all other fans. Brewers don't give off the same gods gift to baseball vibe , so I don't think there is the same hatred for them.

As I was going through this process, it became clear that I needed and wanted a new professional challenge,” Counsell said. Counsell will tour his new office on Monday when he’s formally introduced by the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Looking forward to hearing what they have to say even if it’s all just yadda yadda media drivel.

I hate it whenever an ex-Cub goes to the turds so I know how they feel. But at the same time I realize it is a business for the players and coaches too. What's Counsell going to do, tell the Cubs "No thanks, I don't want the extra couple of million dollars a year because I'll hurt someone's feelings."?

I'm showing up late to this little party but I'm nonetheless very happy about it. I was a big fan of bringing in Ross as a replacement for Madden long before it actually happened. But after this last season I found myself scratching my head at his decisions regarding pitching way too often. Watching Tory Lovello in the World Series reminded me of Ross and the similarities between the two of them. Bringing in Counsell is an awesome move in my opinion and the way that they pulled it off is genius! Welcome to the Counsell era Cubs fans. I hope this brings us another championship. I wish David Ross all the best and have no doubt he will find something lucrative to do with his free time.

As long as you hate the other team enough i suppose. I say just let the hate go, batman 😄 We saw some of our most beloved players go to the cardinals. No big deal, they're still our guys. That should be enough for brewers fans at this moment in time. After we win jewelry though, i might be more understanding of their frustration.

I took it as STL stole Willy from the Cubs , but you were probably talking about Cubs fans hearts . I get it , I know I'd be pissed if we had a manager for 9 years bolt for the Brewers or STL so I can understand where they are coming from, that and he's a local guy on top of it . They already despise the Cubs and their fans for taking over their ballpark everytime the Cubs play up there , now they have even more reasons.

I was kidding around about how whoever said that it was unethical for us to get Counsell was kinda dumb, acting like Willy's move to STL should be condemned also even though it's obviously not an ethics issue.

Annoying click-bait / douche-tastic article headlines "craig counsell-for-david ross cleansing means Cubs can't talk about family, culture anymore" "david ross is coming for the Cubs, wether they like it or not"
I would not guess that these headlines will receive Batman's mighty stamp of approval.

What I like most about Counsell is that his teams had something like 36 sac bunts in 6 years.
