...and Starlin Castro continues trudging toward 3000 hits after being unretired by MLB.
oops I meant 2000.
1722, with a 2yr contract.

May save the Cubs 1/2 mil that they can use to sign somebody.. Ohhhh I didn't realize it worked that way. I know we're on the hook for his 2024 salary, atleast the amount the Cubs already had on the books.
So instead of him making an additional minimum salary that new salary amount goes to his prior team, the cubs, and he makes the same as if he didn't sign with the new team?
Just the prorated amount of minimum salary (around $750,000) but based on how much time he spends on the MLB team so that’s best case.. The same would happen if Mancini would sign but I haven’t heard anything on him so far.

Stroman supposedly contacts Yankees offering his services but they are not interested. It doesn't look like any team is too interested in him & he is now regretting his decision to opt out. Thank you Marcus! Now let's sign him to a 1 year 13 mil deal with a 13 mil player option based on production & 2024 health..

I doubt he's accept something like that and I don't think the Cubs want him back at any price at this point. For some reason they had no interest in trying to extend him and I think him openly campaigning for an extension through social media and the media didn't sit well with the Cubs. It's a shame , I love the guys competetive nature and his passion for the teams he plays on and I had hoped he'd be here for a while.

I loved Stroman here, loved the attitude and the effort, and think he can be a very helpful piece on the right team. But I think his actions here and prior have scared front offices off. He's outspoken and has made himself a distraction every place he's been, front offices generally don't like that. 20 years ago in a world without social media he might have been a star. It's hard enough forming a team without having to deal with a player that runs to social media to vent all the time. There's a certain maturity and professionalism that he's lacking, and thus far in his career it's holding him back from the one thing he's wanted most, a long term contract.

Lol, Nightnegale already flipping on his Stroman story and now saying there is mutual interest with the Yankees. This is not only the worst hot stove season I can remember as of late ( the lockout was even better) but the reporting has to be at an all time low as well. But I guess the "insiders" are also going stir crazy by the lack of rumors and transactions and they have to do their job but it's like as soon as we do hear something on a player it's soon reversed not long after.

Worst offseason I can remember. Even 2020 and lockout seasons were more interesting.
But with LAD signing the majority of the top free agents, I can't help but wonder if some front offices are just giving up for a bit knowing they simply cannot compete.

Lol maybe , they might just be waiting for the Dodgers to say they are finished . Hard to compete bidding with a team that's going to far outbid the others and then have no issues with paying guys 10-20 years down the road that won't be playing for them. Would not be surprised if they sneak in now and sign Imanaga too since he supposedly favors California.

I personally don’t believe the Dodgers will win it all this year & I really hope I’m right. I do however think they’ll win one of the next few after that but they better with that roster..

Well the odds they win one in the next few years is good , helps to always have a playoff caliber team and it's hard not to have one with a 300+ million payroll and it should be hard for them NOT to get into the playoffs, but as long as Roberts in managing them , the odds they don't win one remain fairly good too. It's already pretty damn amazing a team that's been in the playoffs 11 years in a row and 15 out of the last 20 and has not won a full season played WS and only have the Covid season WS for all the years they've been in the playoffs. Hell a lot of our fans were furious the Cubs couldn't pull off a second WS win in the last 7 years , so how would we be handling this if it were the Cubs? It's a double edged sword , it has to be great to be in the dance every season and enjoy winning seasons where your team is among the best or the best team in baseball , but then it really has to suck knowing they are the best over 162 but can't pull off a WS title.

True story there. Basically very much like the Braves were from 1995 to 2005 & to come away with the 1 WS title in 95..

Very true, every offseason its seems there's a team that "won" the offseason and is the favorite, but rarely wins it all. Last year the Mets were seemingly guaranteed to go deep into the playoffs, and look how that went.
That said, I think this LA squad is a different story. There's no chance they flop like the Mets did. They're stacked everywhere. They took a 100 win team and made them significantly better. They legitimately could have built a dynasty this offseason IMO. It's never easy to win it all, but they've got a much greater margin for error than the rest.

It’s hard to imagine that injuries haven’t sapped his abilities at this point. He has had issues with staying on the field for years now. He was never a great defender to begin with and without the big power bat potential it’s been harder to justify him in certain fielding spots. It’s fun to imagine the career that could have been for Bryant yet sad at the same time. He’ll always be remembered for a short but incredible 2015-2019 stretch with the Cubs and his contributions to our WS title though.
