He needs his own thread. Guy continues to mash. Can play all OF spots. I think Heyward gets to mentor him next year.

You know what I mean. Yes, being a leader. Cause we're going to get an influx of young talent soon.

He hit another homer last night and went 2 for 4
In 3 games with Iowa he is 6 for 13 with a walk and he has 3 homers and 5 rbi's .

He is , can't find a classier guy and one who appreciates and totally gets the role a veteran has on young players and that's clearly evident of what he did for Ross and how he appreciates him and what he did for him . But let him mentor from the dugout .

And back to Davis -- in a losing effort, he was 2 fer 3 with 1 BB and 1 K. He's now hitting .450 with an other-worldly 1.472 OPS. They've moved him up to 2nd in the batting order. JHey may be an expensive mentor, but he may be guiding a VERY valuable future asset.

Go ahead and back track and say it's because Heyward is a veteran...

That wasn't directed at me but I feel compelled to ask: What's with the race card? Maybe the fact that Heyward is a great clubhouse guy and has been around the league and on the Cubs team since 2016 has something to do with suggesting him as a mentor? Since Schwarber was in Chicago BEFORE Heyward, and Happ brought up the year after Heyward, it might be reason for someone else to mentor them and that's why no one mentioned it at the time? Maybe because he is by far the most experienced outfielder on the team? Maybe the poster thinks JH would be a good mentor regardless of his ancestry, ever think of that?

Um, what? Heyward is the mentor and leader type, and that's very well known amongst baseball and especially Cubs fans. He's said before that part of the reason he signed with the Cubs is so he could have the opportunity to mentor the younger players. Heyward sucks now, so his value at the moment is his ability to mentor young players- and with an upcoming (hopefully) star coming up, this is how Heyward can continue to make sense on the roster. Davis has a lot of expectations and there will be a lot of pressure - Jhey can help him with that. It makes sense, doesn't it? What a unexpected response to Mike's post.

I don't think that his comment was even slightly racist. He is a well respected veteran & the absolute best outfielder on the team.

I'm sure that was the case...
This has nothing to do with race but maybe we can sign Johnny Cueto to mentor Braylin Marquez and Correa to help mentor Hernandez and Preciado.

And on top of everything you said , at this point Heyward only seems useful as a mentor. Personally, I don't think Heyward has any usefulness. If Davis needs advice, mentor-ship, it should come from Happ considering all the adverser he has dealt with and seems to be righting the ship.
Lets see... Happ was a highly regarded prospect, came up and had a reasonable run of success, then took a step back, then struggled so bad he was sent down, reworked his swing and came up, had a great run of MVP level success, struggled again and has now righted the ship. Seems like a guy I would seek advice from, a guy who knows adversary, how hard you have to work to get to, stay in and succeed in the league.
Heyward.... be really good, sign a big contract and start sucking. But he gave a really good speech once apparently.... and I actually like Heyward...
