Some interesting new details about things in the new CBA:
Expand playoffs and more: 1. Expand playoffs to 14 teams. 2. Top teams still get bye. 3. Other seeds get to pick their wild card opponent for a 3 game series. 4. Higher seeds hosts all 3 games. 5. Things go back to normal in divisional round.
Draft Lottery: 1. Lottery will only be for picks 1-3 2. Playoff teams will round out the draft based on how the finish in the playoffs. WS winner picks last.

GM's and Executives were polled about the changes and they didn't like the playoff structure. There was also a plan to televise the Sunday were higher seeds pick their wild card opponents and Gm/Execs said it would look bad and give people bulletin board material to trash the league.

Each side will slice their own throat if this affects the 2022 season. And I'm afraid both sides are stubborn/greedy enough to do it. I know that personally, I'm out if this goes to a strike.

There was a CBA meeting today and it lasted 30 minutes, OUCH! Yeah, I think the lockout was pretty much understood. Players want to show that they mean business, so this isn't going to be an easy negotiation. However, I hope they aren't stupid enough to strike over the luxury tax. That's a red line, and would mean a strike.

The players countered the owners 14 team playoff proposal with a 12 team proposal.
The Leagues would shrink from 3 divisons to 2.
National League East - Mets, Nats, Braves, Phillies, Marlins, Pirates, and Reds West - Cubs, Brewers, Cards, Dodgers, Padres, D-Backs, Giants, Rockies
First Place teams would get a bye. Second Place and Third Place teams would play each other in a best of three playoff with all the games in the home park of the second place team.

Also mentioned that the owners are on board with eliminating draft pick comp slapped on guys offered a QO.

The odd number of teams makes it not a level playing field. I am all for reducing the number of playoff teams but they would almost need to expand to 32 teams. But won't 12 playoff teams also hurt the tanking issue the players have? Less chance of playoffs means more chance to tank.

Less chance of playoffs means more chance to tank. we could become like the NBA that seems to have a regular season to eliminate the Washington Wizards & Sacramento Kings. We could play enough regular season to eliminate Baltimore & Pittsburgh then hold massively playoffs

Well one thing after seeing how some teams have been throwing around money the owners can't pull out the we are poor card.
That went out the window.
Players can't use or think about owner collusion and holding down on signing big contracts being an issue.

www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/12/latest-on-collective-bargaining-negotiations-2.htmlIn response to the league’s most recent proposal of a 14-team playoff field, the MLBPA has responded with a new proposal of its own, according to ESPN.com’s Jesse Rogers. The union’s latest offer would increase the playoff field to 10 to 12 teams, and also involve a huge overhaul of the current three-division alignment in the AL and NL. Under this new idea, each league would have 15 teams split into two divisions — one with seven teams and one with eight teams — and six AL and NL clubs apiece heading to the postseason. The union’s proposal also included such notable details as advertising patches to be worn on jerseys, and more big-picture changes to baseball’s revenue-sharing system, the free agent system, and the arbitration process. As well, the MLBPA are looking for a substantial increase in the luxury tax threshold, up to $240MM from the 2021 threshold of $210MM.

7 minute meeting between both sides and got bad and owners cutoff talks and will lockout MLBPA tonight Might have used the 10 letter phrase "Salary Cap". That would end the meeting quickly. Probably the only sport not to have one though so some day..

7 minute meeting between both sides and got bad and owners cutoff talks and will lockout MLBPA tonight Not quite true, they were pretty much meeting all morning and the afternoon session ended after 7 minutes. But will not resume so it's lock out time.

Media is trying to spin it that way though. But Morosi was on MLB early this morning saying they have been talking all morning .

But Morosi was on MLB early this morning saying they have been talking all morning . this makes more sense, you would think a multi billion dollar business would have more than 7 minute talks before a lockout. I am still optimistic this will get worked out in a decent amount of time without hurting the 2022 season. they are making some progress which is good but not enough.

Yikes, loads of late night games for the Cubs against teams out west. I doubt the Ricketts and their Marquee Sports Network would tolerate that.
