The players countered the owners 14 team playoff proposal with a 12 team proposal. The Leagues would shrink from 3 divisons to 2. National League East - Mets, Nats, Braves, Phillies, Marlins, Pirates, and Reds West - Cubs, Brewers, Cards, Dodgers, Padres, D-Backs, Giants, Rockies First Place teams would get a bye. Second Place and Third Place teams would play each other in a best of three playoff with all the games in the home park of the second place team. Sigh. Very stupid idea on so many levels. But I am not surprised that this is an actual thing that is being discussed. Baseball is quickly ruining baseball.

If it is over by mid January I would consider that a very fortunate thing.

If it is over by mid January I would consider that a very fortunate thing. It is likely best case but if it drags on longer then Spring Training and regular season start to get threaten and I don't think both sides after 2020 want that to happen but we will see.

You're not going to be able to make that work with scheduling due to the time differences... MLB would have to do a complete reshuffle of American and National league teams unless MLB did almost a complete balancing act... adding one team to each division, splitting the divisions down the middle, 8 teams per and playing 10 games against each (cutting down from 162 games to 160) while doing away with inter-league play.
Of course, if you just ended up playing your five game set, it could make travel and scheduling pretty easy.

No meeting set any time soon per Manfred, sounds like they are both going to sit on their hands for a while.

I expect baseball to be played on time in 2022 but the whole negotiation process is going to be long and drawn out... I'm thinking we will see some type of agreement around mid-February.

I think we can all agree, this is going to be drawn out to the absolute max amount of time before games start needing to be cancelled.
both sides have no sense of urgency at the moment to talk

I personally don't think it will have much of an effect on spring training or the season if it takes until mid-Feb (which happens to also be my prediction).
Once the CBA is wrapped up, the players would immediately be required to report to spring training (depending on when it's agreed upon, it may only effect pitchers and catchers). Keeping in mind also that the lockout does not cover minor league players or coaching staffs. Those personnel will report as required and already be in position for when the MLB players arrive.
The hiccup will be the MLB free agents which is why I think a lot of the players that have not signed already, will re-sign with either their former team or a team that they are familiar with/have played for in the past. I also imagine agents, although are not allowed to negotiate contracts, are in contact with teams gathering information for their clients. A lot of leg work went into thing prior i.e. exchanging numbers, and now guys are studying best fits. Once things are agreed upon, I imagine you'll see most free agents sign/contracts agreed upon within a week.

Forgot about the minors league players, Spring training is going on with or without the MLB players, so Mid-Febuary is reasonable to assume. With players transactions and trades, We all know the FO are secretly talking to each other and agents, I am with you the flurry of transactions once the lockout is over is going to be absolutely insane.
