And it finally happened. Cubs and Eric Sogard agree to minor league deal. I just saw that. I was a bit surprised that the Cubs are also one of numerous teams looking at Cespedes. He's 35 & has made over 140 mil already & he's looking for a deal to play this year that won't pay him much at all? Kind of surprising.

He just cannot seem to stay healthy & we'd have to cut someone off of the 40 man. Then again, if he did make it & become all world I am alright with being totally wrong..

Then again, if he did make it & become all world I am alright with being totally wrong.. I wouldn't love it, but I wouldn't mind seeing them do a little something different to see how it goes. He could be a Milton Bradley 2.0, BUT with the caveat that he's not a player the team would be expecting much from like they did Bradley. This lineup is already pretty much set, he wouldn't need to anchor it like other stops. His only job would be to do his thing and not have to shoulder the load of the entire lineup, which for some guys is really beneficial.

Not a good guy for the clubhouse, even if he was still good at baseball.

Why? How many AAAA bench players are the Cubs gonna be forced to keep?

Why? How many AAAA bench players are the Cubs gonna be forced to keep? Well, it's almost final roster time. When they returned our RuleV pick (GRRRRR), they opened up a 40man roster position. That opens up a spot for a non-roster player to make the team. Sogard seems like the best backup infielder. I'm thinking that our bench will include: - Sogard
- Marisnick
- Bote
- Romine

Why? How many AAAA bench players are the Cubs gonna be forced to keep? Sogard can play all over the field and give you quality defense including SS, he is also a high contact hitter who can get on base which the Cubs need. He is also not far removed from having a very productive year in 2019, so why not see if the Cubs can catch some lighting in the bottle? they have nothing to lose to try.

Hoerner is all the things you claim Sogard to be. The only difference is he's not left handed, or on his last legs.

Not to be moving the goal posts here, but, Sogard is not on the 40 man. Ildemaro Vargas is on the 40. He's also 4 years younger at 29, with simular MLB stats, although far fewer games played. He's a switch hitter who also plays all the infield positions. So who gets bumped to get Sogard on the Cubs? And whats the domino effect ?
