good news and bad news. Steele probably out for a long time? Even if it’s only 4 weeks they need another starter in the mean time.

good news and bad news. Steele probably out for a long time? Seems logical that a several week IL stint is incoming. Glad they are calling up Brown though and giving him a shot. Question is will it be for the pen with some stinker like Smyly getting a rotation crack instead? Or Brown straight into the starting group?

Thank goodness, I assumed it was Smyly.
Great to see the FO not sticking with the Vets and starting to give the kids a chance. So refreshing

Now being reporting that the Cubs will alter the pitching schedule in the rotation, so he could be out of the bullpen initially until they need a 5th starter

With possible rainouts next week they may not need a 5th starter till the West Coast trip

I would imagine - although with the expected rain outs and off days, I'm not sure when a 5th starter will be needed - the spot will go to some Brown/Smyly piggybacking system. One may start and the other will take over in the 4th or 5th inning. And who exactly gets the "start" would likely depend on the composition of the opponent's left/right roster.

well 1, he's probably not used to coming out of a bullpen. 2, probably nervous. 3, every pitcher has a bad outing now and then. 4 game was over anyway.

Fed to the wolves on his first day. Gives me brailyn marquez flashbacks.
This tough experience for Brown hopefully helps down the road.
On to the next game.

Nothing wrong with Counsell deciding to use him right away no matter who they are playing. If it's not the Rangers, it'll be some other wolfpack.
Definitely saw some release point inconsistency. Probably nerves. But if is a technical thing, that's why they have a Pitching Lab nowadays.
Right now, he's a raw piece of meat that needs seasoning and searing so this was a good way to get it.

MLB umpires tend to call strikes on the edge as balls, to teach newly called-up rookies to aim closer to the center of the zone. The umpires want their jobs to be made easier.
