No market value listed for belli yet on spotrac MLBTraderumors just came out with a list of where the top 15 free agents will go & their expected contract for what it's worth. They have Bellinger going to the Yankees (puke..) at 8 years & 200 million. Steve guessed 8 years @ 200 to 250 mil so spot on for the low side.. They have Candelario going to the Brewers (puke..) at 4 years & 60 million. They have Matt Chapman going to the Cubs at 6 years & 150 million. They have Urias going to the Dodgers at 5 years & 105 million. (What a drop from just 2 months ago). Finally they have Ohtani going to the Dodgers (Surprise!) at 11 years & 550 Million. Personally I would like to see them sign Belli & Candelario at the stated contracts. I still think that Ohtani actually considers the contract from the Cubs that I proposed a few days ago, a 10 year 530 million deal set with descending values from year to year - 60, 58, 56, 54, 52, & 50 the last 5 years w/ an opt out after year 3 & year 4. The Dodgers deal has an AAV of 50 mil per year BUT comes with California taxes & the Cubs deal is 53 mil per year and NOT California taxes. But the ocean in SoCal is much nicer than Chicago's so..

At his budget - would you rather have a mansion with an ocean view or a mansion with a lake michigan view? Nice, dry climate vs cold as hell for most of the year.
Has Shohei mentioned what's important to him these days?
Here's a snippet from an old article mentioning his desire to not join a team with another japanese star. If this portion is true, I really doubt he's worried about not standing out against Suzu right now, so it might not be an issue for his upcoming deal.
"Japanese baseball phenom Shohei Ohtani may prefer to sign with an MLB team that doesn't already have another Japanese star on its roster, according to a new report.
Per MLB Network's Jon Morosi, multiple team executives say they believe Ohtani may want to stand alone in that regard, although his camp has not commented on the matter.
According to Morosi, Ohtani's teammate in Japan, Brandon Laird, suggested the report could be true by saying, "I feel like he just wants to come and not be compared to other guys who have already been here—to start fresh on his own, show what he can do by himself.""

Belly they should sign for sure at whatever the cost is. Candelario , not sure about committing 4 years to him , he's having an excellent season but it may be just that , he doesn't have the track record to warrant a 4 year deal to me. But I'd take him in a heartbeat on a 2 year deal with maybe an option. And with so many infield prospects I expect one to end up at 3b and be ready within 2 years

Lol , I think that " Japanese star" is no longer an issue since he's already established himself in the states and he's already proven nobody compares . That was probably ,more of a Seattle (Ichiro) Yankees (Matsui) type thing back when he was coming over.

Belly now has the 4th highest batting average in all of baseball at .332 And with 4 plate appearances today, he should now qualify for the batting title. To qualify, a player must have 3.1 PA times the number of games played by his team, for those who don't know.

It's crazy to think that if you extrapolate his 30+ missed games he'd probably have 25 HR's & 85-90 RBI's with 5-5.5 WAR.

And this is what I kept telling people this winter and early spring when they were saying the Cubs need a middle of the order bat , I said they might already have one in Bellinger. I didn't expect him to be the MVP caliber Bellinger though but I thought there was a decent chance he gets back to being a productive bat. It's really going to be a shame if he's only a Cub for one season. Jed talks pretty giddy about him , so I think the Cubs will make a valant effoert to bring him back. I know I'll be really bummed out of they don't , he's truly a special player and a guy they can build the next winner around.

Going to have to do a welfare check on you when he signs with another organization.

Sure seems like a perfect fit and I found it extremely odd that Boras did not want the Cubs to trade him because if they did he would not have not been elligible for the QO which would help his free agency www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/scott-boras-warns-chicago-cubs-not-to-trade-cody-bellinger/ar-AA1c9R5yAnd this was also said at a time the Cubs looked like clear sellers

As much as I would like to see Bellingers numbers if he hadnt missed a game, his injury did lead to the start of the Micheal Tauchman era.

True ,but as good as he's been , I still don't see Tauchman as a long term piece here unless they decide to platoon him with Suzuki in 2024 or trade Suzuki this winter. PCA is going to have CF in 2024 if not right out of spring , soon after.

Wouldnt have happened if not for Bellinger injury.

Very good point & Tauchman has been instrumental to the Cubs & for what he makes vs what he has been worth it is hard to see anyone else of more value to them other than Steele. I think the Cubs keep him for next year but I also don't know that PCA starts with the Cubs out of spring training but who really knows at this point..

Agree on Nightengale being wrong a ton. But I am also concerned with Happ & Suzuki's contracts somewhat hamstringing them unless they can get Seiya to wave his NTC which I don't believe will be very likely. I just can't see them eating that deal but potentially they could eat a portion & deal him to a small market team but there is where I can't see him waiving his NTC. Although I see Belli playing 1st. most of the time but also some CF too.
