Zobrist seeks new Rule
Ben Zobrist talked about playing 24 straight games without a day off, and he did not sound happy about it and wants that to be fixed in the CPA.
Do you think the 24 game stretch had something to do with the downward spiral the Cubs faced the past 3 weeks?

Ill wager that it didnt help but I doubt it was a big part of the overall cause either. Considering a lot of teams have stretches like this over the year, I wonder what those teams records are in that time span.

I believe it is more of an injury situation than any reason for a slump. They played a very tough schedule with make-up games in there & were simply slumping due to many factors (injury, poor starting pitching, poor relief pitching and mostly poor hitting)..

I believe the Rangers also had a similar stretch and did not play all that well. I think it definitely played a part in the Cubs struggles and I'm glad it's over. With that said, they won't get a whole lot of sympathy for me since they all make more in a day than most people make in a year. If you ignore that fact, clearly playing that many days in a row while traveling multiple times each week would be tough and teams very rarely go through a stretch like that with a stellar record.

They are only allowed 20 straight games without a day off under the current bargaining agreement. The rainout caused this schedule. (12) No Club shall be scheduled, or rescheduled if practicable, to play more than 20 consecutive dates without an open day. A rainedout game may be rescheduled to an open date in the same series, or to an open date at the end of the same series, if (a) the open date is a road off-day for the visiting Club, and (b) the rescheduling does not result in the home team playing more than 24 consecutive dates without an open day.
