It's definitely good for rookies like Almora, Contreras, and Baez to get tons of playing time. This will pay dividends long term, but I look forward to having those two back from the DL. Added depth and better matchups will only help this team post-All Star break.

Soler is always a question mark. Seems like it takes him 4x as long as a normal human being to heal from his hamstring injuries. It's weird. Fowler coming back will be a boost no doubt. BTW - I've never started a game thread. Let me know if guys want me to do that tonight so hopefully create some nice juju I've been pretty pissed off at our Cubs lately but I get the sense that playing the Pirates will wake them up after the massive punch to the gut they've taken.

Latest on Soler.
Jorge Soler (hamstring) has advanced to taking batting practice. That's a good sign, though there's no indication Soler is ready or even close to beginning a rehab assignment. Kris Bryant has manned left field in Soler's absence. The Cubs are already down a left fielder with Kyle Schwarber (torn ACL) out for the season. Jun 23 - 6:16 PM

Start it man. What can it hurt?? Ha exactly. Cannot hurt anything. Figure we may as well have some fun with it. I'll start the game thread tonight and if they lose, someone new should start it tomorrow. We'll find something that works eventually!

Fowler will return after the break, as for Soler who knows I heard that about Fowler as well. Sounds like Soler shouldn't be too far behind if he's taking batting practice.

Latest on Soler. Jorge Soler (hamstring) has advanced to taking batting practice. That's a good sign, though there's no indication Soler is ready or even close to beginning a rehab assignment. Actually the fact that he is taking batting practice is an indication that he is close to a rehab assignment.

Considering that he started taking batting practice on June 23 and he hasn't been sent on a rehab assignment yet tells me that he wasn't close to one then either.

For what it's worth, I did see Soler getting some work in on the bases prior to the 6/29 game in Cincinnati. He looked like he was getting around just fine, but I am obviously not a medical professional.
