So, according to that article, he's a terrible hitter, why was he worth as much, and why he had prior success?

I've been saying his swing is a mess for a while and they need to change it. Just too much going on with it , from the loop in his swing to his follow through footwork and I'm not sure why they are afraid to mess with it. This guy normally starts out slow but picks it up at this time of year, watching his swing I don't see that happening unless he changes it, he's rarely squaring up on the ball and hitting it hard. He made some loud outs in recent games, but still, way too much weak contact for a guy with his size and athletic ability.

Maybe the FO thought long term the swing will not work out, but wanted Heyward to figure that out so he would be open to making adjustments and pretty much overhaul it. He could be getting the Baez treatment for all we know.
Overhaul the swing and you got another monster hitter for under $30 million a year?
Just a thought, I doubt this was the case but you never know.

Well this may seem silly, but since he wont be in the All start game ( lol) why not work on a different method for his swing now? He certainly can't get much worse and with live pitching from other teams its not like they'll be holding back on him. His glove obviously would be the main reason, but if he continues with his same swing, he's nothing more then the most expensive defensive replacement in baseball.

He has changed his swing before , so I would hope he's open to doing it again since the current one isn't working for him. Fun stat, Heyward 4 hr's 28 rbi's Cubs pitching staff 2 hr's 21 rbi's
