I ve been sitting here doing some thinking and thought a mid season report card would be nice. I tried to be as honest as i possibly could taking the Cubs torrid start to the not so torrid mid season.
Starting Pitching Overall B Relief Pitching Overall C+ Defense Overall B+ Offense Overall B-
Cubs im most pleasantly Surprised with Kris Bryant, Dexter Fowler, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, Grandpa Ross.
Cubs im most disappointed in Jason Heyward, Cogs, Montereo.
I think they'll do ok. Like to see what Theo is going to do and what he may add to the roster as well. Everything else is fairly obvious as far as other Cubs go, and not in a bad way. This is my report card.
Next??

Starting pitching: A- let's face the fact that we've been spoiled by a ridiculous hot start from the pitchers. If the pitchers had the same eras they do but we're more consistent instead of hot to start with a tail off of late then you'd all be ecstatic to have three starters well under 3 and two more well under 4.
Bullpen: started off A. F of late. Overall? C- Offense: A to start. C- of late. B+ overall. Defense: B Baserunning: C
Overall: B+

About a B. Still on pace for 100 wins exactly (I said just over 100 before the season), but the June swoon and July struggles of late are definitely disturbing.

I go with a B overall.
Bullpen: C- Offense: B Defense: B Baserunning: C Starting Pitching: A
Overall: B
Need to improve: 1. Bullpen, 2. Situational hitting, 3. Bullpen, 4. clean up the defense, 5. Bullpen and 5. Almost forgot, fix the bullpen.

I would say this, team gets a B to B+ so far.All games count 2 weeks ago it would have been an A.They have to sure up.the bullpen because this team is going to be in the lead alot going into the 7,8,9th.

When your team leads baseball in ERA, even after a shitty week it still deserves an A...

Have to agree on the SP.All games count but people always have the recent play implanted in their mind.

Have to agree on the SP.All games count but people always have the recent play implanted in their mind. Recent play is a C. Overal is a A. Best record in baseball and tops in several categories deserves an A no matter how mediocre the team is play LATELY.

We all knew the weaknesses of this team at Spring Training... Injuries and Bullpen. We were calling them out early; I distinctly remember someone saying, "Richard and Cahill?! I thought we were only carrying one of them on this team? Spencer Patton won a spot in the bullpen out of ST."
Bullpen Mar/April - Rondon 8th, Strop 34th, out of top 50 in WAR (Rondon was pitching out of his mind... had a FIP of -0.25!) May - Nobody top 30 in WAR, Rondon 46th June - Nobody top 30 in WAR, Cahill 31st, Wood 44th July - Nobody top 50 in WAR
