Let's go Cubs! Hoping for a better day today! Let's hope that Jake is back to being Jake and that the Cubbie bats wake up and pound some runs out of this last place scrub team.

Nice to see Cogs in the lineup. I know this wasnt a favorite move by many but he did alright for us last year. He also seemed to be the unluckiest guy for a good chunk of the time he was here. If you follow those stats.

If you follow those stats. I wouldn't be surprised if Coghlan put up solid numbers at the plate in a part time role but let's not forget how horrendous he is on defense. That's my main concern with him.

Blurb from an article after the A's traded for Coghlan.
There's good news and bad news. Let's start with the bad news: Coghlan has negative numbers across the board for his defense. His primary position has been left field, where he has ranged from neutral to awful. He's also spent some time in center, where he's mostly been awful. In both cases, the culprit is a lack of range, as his arm grades out fine and he seems to make the plays on balls he can get to. He's also made brief appearances at 1B, 2B, 3B, and RF, but hasn't spent enough time at any of them to reveal how proficient he is at playing them. Overall, his career defensive value is a giant negative, with a best-case scenario of being average in small stretches.

He was really brutal there.

He was really brutal there. This was before he ever played a game for the A's. I'm talked about the statement - "His primary position has been left field, where he has ranged from NUETRAL TO AWFUL." I don't have the defensive metrics in front of me right now but I've seen him play enough to know he's a horrible defensive left fielder. I like the guy and I like his ability to get on base. I'm just saying that if Joe removes Soler and Schwarber for defense late in games, I hope he does the same with Coghlan because he's probably worse than both of them.

I'll really be watching whether or not Arrieta hits his spots today, especially early. His command has been off more often that not lately. Well that's a not ideal start...

Good to see JHey go yard. Although I'm sure that if Fowler would have reached he would have hit into a double play instead. Let's keep this train moving today!!!!
