MLB will test automated balls and strikes challenge system.
from Rob Manfred on Dan Patrick show "I think you will see some version of the automated strike zone in the big leagues in the next 4 years. The technology piece of it is so robust. Literally the path of the pitches is tracked good to 1/100th of an inch. It's hard to ignore that technology."
-Commissioner Manfred

I’m not sold on this automation. Imagine this scenario:: Steele is pitching a perfect game. 3-2 count and he misses by a 1/4 inch for ball four. 99% chance an umpire calls that strike three. I just feel that taking the human element completely out just isn’t right. I’ve done quite a bit of umpiring for youth leagues, and I can say for sure that it can be tough even then.Maybe make the qualifications a little more stringent? The robots are taking over lol.

Almost every game I watched had large amounts of missed calls and some were not even close, and it's even happening in the playoffs.

I get your point on that, but lets keep same scenario. Steele throws a obvious strike and ump calls it a ball. we would be saying that, well if MLB just had a balls and strike challenge system, Steele would had a perfect game. how many times have we seen obvious strikes get called balls and obvious balls get called strikes?

And it will also eliminate the need for pitch framing and the obnoxious level catchers have taken pitch framing to that are a big reason why umpires miss these calls so badly.

Imagine how good Seiya would be if he wasn't the guy getting the most bad calls in the game .

The velocity at which pitchers throw in todays game has had an affect on the accuracy of the umpire's call. I don't think anyone can argue that it is more difficult to accurately determine a near 100 mph pitch than a low 90's. Recently I suggested moving the pitching rubber back to 61 feet. That 6" is a pretty huge change in the grand scheme of things but I'm not so sure it wouldn't be a better idea than some of the other things MLB has done.
