This one kind of made me laugh. The Rays? I think Heyman has been hitting the nose inhaler too much.
The Rays are among the teams that have reached out to Juan Soto’s camp since the opening of free agency last week, writes Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman lists a much less surprising additional six teams that have shown interest: the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Giants, Blue Jays and Red Sox.

Rays are a funny option... I looked at some stuff with the Rays. They're actually breaking ground on a new stadium in 2025 and it will be ready for the 2028 season with the location being MUCH mor accessible than it's current location. I don't buy it, that team is a shell of it's self

Mets offer Adames 7/160 to play 3B... doesn't want to come off of shortstop (hmmm). Jed!!! BRO... Go out and get Vientos, he's gotta feel attacked.

Adames from what I read the other day is willing to change positions. Vientos from what I've read/heard is likely going to be moved to 1b if they don't sign Alonso. Baty was supposed to be their 3b of the future so maybe he's available , but with Shaw and Cam Smith on the horizon that no longer seems like somebody the Cubs would still be after. He's the guy they asked for before they got PCA and were turned down.

But I don't really see the Cubs being interested in Baty anymore now that they have Cam Smith .

And the Cubs pushed for Baty in the Baez deal. Not that PCA is lighting it up, but glad we got PCA instead.

Tony Rizzo is 35 and coming off of a career worst season, but also a season that ended in the world series. May be hard to find a full time 1b gig. Time to hang em up?
Edit: maybe not. Theres a bigger market for 1b than i thought

The next Japanese Superstar Roki Sasaki will be posted by the Chibbe Lions
Let's face it though, he's going to the Dodgers.
He won't be getting anything like Yamamoto or Ohtani money like last year.
He will only be allowed to sign a minor league deal since he is not 25 yet. It will be similar to when Ohtani first came over and signed with the Angels.

The only positive out of this is it might give the Cubs a better chance at one of the top 4 pitchers now since LA will be adding the best they might not be as aggressive on the others.

I don’t count the Cubs out on Sasaki, although I think Hoyer really missed out not adding international pool money via trade at the deadline. “Hey, I’ll pay all but a fraction of so and sos salary just got pool money” would have been my approach. Sure, money doesn’t seem like a huge priority for Sasaki but wouldn’t it speak volumes to a player if you made him a priority even before he was available? We believe in you so much we did x, y, z? With Imanaga and Suzuki, we have two Japanese superstars, same as the dodgers. We have Darvish, who despite being traded spoke up Chicago to Suzuki despite the Padres being in on his services as well. We have a track record, recently anyway, of developing pitching and keeping them healthy and with Imanaga we can argue that we developed a game plan for him that was more successful than the Dodgers did for Yamamoto.

I hope you are right and the Cubs when Ohtani was posted were said to be his second choice behind the Angels, but times were different then. But almost everything I ever read on him pretty much says he will be a Dodger , they have a longer history with the Japanese players going back to Nomo and they have the whole Hollywood thing going for them. But he is going to be a bargain and Jed loves to sniff those out . I forgot how the posting system works so I read this www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/roki-sasaki-mlb-free-agency-one-remaining-decision-could-signal-if-japanese-phenom-is-targeting-the-dodgers/ar-AA1tO05d?ocid=BingNewsSerpAnd now my brain hurts and I'm even more confused but it points to LA being almost a sure bet to land him.

I wonder if the Cubs go salary dumpster diving with the Giants. Tyler Rogers and Wade Jr arb estimated 5.5 + 4.7 (essentially Smyly). We get a lead-off guy that actually gets on base (.379 compared to Happs's .341) and a solid, setup man to replace Neris (if Hodge is the closer).

Exactly what the Cubs need, a corner outfielder who can’t run, can’t throw, has no power and plays poor defense.
