The FIP tactic has worked amazingly well. I'm sure the league has noticed.

Love it, thanks for posting. I would love to read some other articles from the rebuilding years, specifically some by the Chicago columnists (Wittenmeyer in particular) that said what they were doing was in sane. "Why can't they win and rebuild at the same time!?"
Well guys, this is why... It's really incredible what they've built here in Chicago.

Hey Bucky, nice article. Some people saw it coming a couple of years earlier. Some saw it coming in the days when this article was written. All the while, some would rather ruin the other board with cynicism and bullshit. Quote: "It's really incredible what they've built here in Chicago."
Hey Ice, so true. I checked it out once while in a game thread. The Cubs have replaced 18 players who were on the roster in April and May of last year.... Now think about it. There's only 25 men on the roster at any given time. The Cubs have found upgrades for 18 different guys... In less than 1 year, they have assembled a roster of epic proportions. For those who are keyboard challenged, if you take out the "<" in your link, this site will create a direct link that doesn't need to be copied and pasted: grantland.com/the-triangle/chicago-cubs-rebuilding-theo-epstein-javier-baez-kris-bryant-jake-arrieta/

The FO was very transparent about the approach, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to see strong probability of a positive outcome associated with it. Easy for us to say that in hindsight, but I think most if not all of us were aboard from the get-go. Interesting that the Cubs just swept the Phils last week. Remember late July in 2015, in the midst of getting swept (at Wrigley) by the lowly Phils, which included Cole Hammels' no-no and Jake's last loss (I was at that game for crying out loud)? Back then, the Cubs were 5 games over .500 and closer to the last place Brewers than the first place Cards. Seems like ancient history. Since then, they've got 80-32. Almost 3/4 of a season of .700+ baseball. Actually, more like .715. Un ... freakin ... real. This is fun.

Theo and & Co deserves a ton of credit for the success, but I want to give a shout out to the Rickets Family, as a Cubs fan you could not ask for a better owners for this franchise, they took a ton of heat a fought a ton of major battles to get this franchise where it is today, at the same time allowed Theo & Co. have 100% full control of the baseball operation side and let him see his vision out, and now it is paying off in a big way.
