All who have given your lives in service to our nation, we thank you today. A simple thank you could never be enough for those who paid the ultimate price. To the families of fallen heroes - their selflessness and courage will never be forgotten.
I know this part of the forum is for baseball posts, but I don't think there is a wrong place to say those words.

For those of us that served in the military this isn't really our day...there are others who gave everything.

Not meaning to nitpick but Memorial day is meant to recognize those who died in battle while serving their country. Veterans day is meant to recognize all who have served honorably whether in time of peace or war. Just wanted to make that distinction.

This is a day where we remember the fallen, not the ones who served in the military and returned. I had a great uncle that died during WWII flying a cargo plane.
Today is meant for us to remember our honored dead.

Quite true. People often mix up the two holidays, or treat both of them as honoring both those killed and those who of us who returned. After being drafted, I served in Vietnam and returned. For twenty years after that war we Vietnam veterans were ignored, and understandably so since that war in my opinion was unjustified. I don't think much of the later ones either. Around 1990 when the government no longer drafted people and had to recruit for a new war, they suggested that citizens start thanking veterans and current military. It's gotten to the point that politicians running for office are labeling us all heroes, which debases the term that in my day was essentially reserved for Medal of Honor winners. The government now encourages ceremonies honoring the military during sporting events. It's done for recruitment purposes, and unfortunately maintains enthusiasm for war. Today my thoughts are with my fallen friends. But I hope you understand my position about war.

Thankfully today doesn't apply to you but I give thanks to all that today truly has closer meaning with.
