MLB is now opening a investigation after all. I wonder what Fumio Kishida thinks about this. Or if it's his idea. Japan is all about honor and disgrace.
Or at least it used to be.

MLB is now opening a investigation after all. Major League Rule 21 is quoted below for the guidance of all managers, coaches, players, umpires, club and league officials and employees. Rule 21 MISCONDUCT . (3) Any player, umpire, or Club or League official or employee who places bets with illegal book makers, or agents for illegal book makers, shall be subject to such penalty as the Commissioner deems appropriate in light of the facts and circumstances of the conduct... For purposes of this provision, an illegal
bookmaker is an individual who accepts, places or handles wagers on sporting events from members of
the public as part of a gaming operation that is unlawful in the jurisdiction in which the bets are
accepted.

In short, It's a full year for betting on baseball. Let's assume Ohtani did not do that, and so would face a lesser penalty. But, if he placed bets with an illegal bookmaker out of California on any sporting event, he will be penalized.

Some of Ohtani,'s ex teammates said he has no interest in other sports at all so they doubt he is involved in placing any bets.

I agree, but there's gonna be a LOT of questions and wild speculation about everything from Mizuhara to Ohtani to the highest levels of baseball management.

No doubt & the only guarantee is that Ohtani will not enjoy it no matter what happened.

Now they’re saying he will just read a brief statement at 230 Pacific time and will not take any media questions. What is he hiding?

Now they’re saying he will just read a brief statement at 230 Pacific time and will not take any media questions. What is he hiding? Can you imagine having a full blown rabid reporter group firing questions to him / his translator? It would be a complete circus.. I think they are going to rely on the investigation to get to the bottom of it as they supposedly are doing so I'm going to wait before I start accusing him of hiding something but many won't. That's just not how it works anymore.

I don't think anyone wants Ohtani to be implicated or face any consequence that hurts his brand or MLB's brand home and abroad. I don't want to imagine Ohtani suspended or something like that. Bad for the game and would be shocking for Japan to see. The guy's basically the face of baseball right now - and just signed such a big contract that it looks like a typo. So I hope he's cleared in the situation.

Shohei Ohtani: “I am just beyond shocked.”Said he will let his lawyers handle things from here on out, and he is “completely assisting” all investigations.
Shohei Ohtani said he has never bet on baseball or any other sport, and never had anyone place any bets on his behalf. “Up until a couple days ago, I had no idea this was happening.”

I heard that Ohtani called his new ex best friend a liar Jerry Springer is giggling and saying "Remember, I said to be GOOD to each other!"
