I feel that Hoyer has aced the offseason. He added to the team without crippling it for years to come with one or more bloated lifetime contracts. While his farm system is ready to start putting players on the MLB team.

I would still love to have Cody back on a 6 year deal at 25 mil per because he should easily be worth 16 mil a year just with his glove & I expect good things from him at the plate again. I’m also guessing he would be a wonderful mentor for the coming influx of young players as well so I’d really like him back on a true market value deal if Boras will allow it. We’ll see soon I guess..

Someone said Busch wasn't throwing balls in the infield when he was "supposed to", so we may have an injury.

The only thing about the Bellinger signing, and it's a minor one, is that it probably ends any chance Mervis has with the Cubs.

Word is that Busch had some mild shoulder discomfort at the start of spring training but is expected in the lineup tomorrow. Don’t think we’ve seen Suzuki yet, would be great to see him swinging tomorrow, too.

Don’t think we’ve seen Suzuki yet, would be great to see him swinging tomorrow, too. Michael Busch had a little bit of a sore shoulder at the start of camp so the Cubs were cautious, Craig Counsell said, but he’s in the lineup tomorrow: “Good to go and no issues, no concerns.

Taillon update:
He had some minor calve tightness early on but the main holdup is refining his mechanics to improve his stride to the plate which was the issue last season.
He is expected to make his debut this weekend

I know it's ST, but I've been pretty disappointed in PCA, Busch and Canario. Guys I really wanted to see do well in ST and make the Cubs have a tough decision on the MLB roster to start the season. I get it, with Belly coming back it would have been tough for PCA, but even if there were an injury PCA has played his way back to AAA.
On the flip side, Shaw has been fantastic. He looks really good and looks like a guy with a fast track. I said in one of the game threads, looks like a Craig Biggio to me. Mervis has been ok. I think at this point you probably start Mervis at 1B to start the season.

I was also hoping that PCA would have torn the cover off the ball too but I think he really has to start every day in AAA in order to get ready so I don't know that anything changed there. I think Busch has hit better than you do so I have no issue with him making the team out of ST at all & I expect good things from him. The roster is going to be an issue so I don't know that Mervis can break camp with the big club but I would also like to see what he could do starting at 1st. often.. I am really ready for them to start scoring runs in these games though & I know it is ST & it isn't a huge deal but I'd feel much better if they would.

I'm not looking too much into what they've done so far , it's mostly guys having 12-20 at bats so far and getting 1-2 at bats a game before they flip other guys into the line ups. I'll start looking more into it when guys are playing most or all of the games and getting their 4-5 at bats. I mean none of them are doing terrible , PCA is hitting .190 , if he has a 2 hit game the average is back to being somewhat decent . I just want them all healthy and doing what they need to do and have no worries or disappointments as this stage. And if they don't make the roster they go to Iowa and I'm sure we'll see them at some point. I doubt very much Mervis makes the team , they didn't trade for Busch and sign Smith and Peralta if they had any visions of him breaking camp with the team. I think Busch who hasn't looked great , but hasn't looked horrible is going to be the 1b to start the season.

Knee jerk reactions after ~21 plate appearances doesn’t do anyone any good. If Canario gets a hit in his next at bat his batting average jumps 0.525 points. PCA two hits to start his next game? .286 batting average. Busch had had 13 at bats. I don’t understand how anyone can possibly be disappointed based on these irrelevant sample sizes.

Killian has shoulder discomfort and will and had a MRI and waiting for the results and Counsell said it is concerning.
Hopefully nothing serious comes out of the MRI but Counsell comments make it sound like they expecting the worse.
That sucks!

Hopefully everybody is sitting down for this but Madrigal leg cramp is now considered ANOTHER Hamstring issue and having a MRI today, Counsel said it is precaution.

I’m bummed for Killian but not surprised at all about Madrigal. 2.5 years here now and he’s amounted to very little. Some have countered that his meager offensive output should be asterisked because the guy hasn’t been able to consistently stay on the field and find any semblance of rhythm. Whelp, that’s part of the game and those hamhocks of his appear made of glass.
Sucks for him but fortunately for the Cubs he isn’t an instrumental part of our roster or chances going forward. Both Mastrobuoni and Vazquez are far better suited for a bench role than he.
