Even if I still lived in the area I would not go , not for me. Once I started getting older than the players which was a long time ago that kind of thing lost it's appeal. I did go to one and that was enough. I took my cousins kid to one of the first WSox ones because he loved Frank Thomas , it was more like a body odor convention , almost an instant headache from the smell that I could not seem to get out of my nostrils.

I can see how it might not be for everyone. I'd hate the crowd of people, but love the players =)
Funny you mentioned the stank at the sox convention. Last time I was in chicago i was surprised by how everyone smelled so good - seemed like every single person wore nice cologne/perfume, damn near anywhere you went. Ofcourse though I didn't take the L - that's a sure way to get some funk in ya nose.

Went in 2016 so there was a lot of hype after the 2015 season. It was pretty miserable. You stand in line all day to get signatures from minor leagues or bullpen pitchers. I was under the impression you could get in anyone’s line and was hoping to get a lot of good signatures on a W flag as something cool to pass along to my children. (For example my dad has a helmet with the 85 bears that I will eventually own and then my daughter)
Think that was the first year you couldn’t go just to any players line and you got the pull tab for a chance at one of the stars and not everyone got one. I think my pull tab was like 15% off the cubs store. I was pretty disappointed and ended up bailing on the lines halfway through and went to some of the sessions which were okay but nothing special.
Will never go again

Will never go again Dang, that sucks. I thought you'd be able to get the hookup with autographs at the convention and atleast be able to have a solid time.
Doesn't seem like very many people enjoy it. May scratch it off my bucket list.

Some people love the sessions and for those it’s worth it. They weren’t terrible but nothing I’d kill an entire weekend for. So if that’s your thing it’s not bad. Heard if you waited around certain places in the hotel you may run into players to get autographs but I would have felt awkward doing that, feel that’s more for the kids which is why I was looking to go the more formal route. Wasn’t expecting to get the whole crew cause I figured lines would be long but was hoping for a solid 4-5 like Schwarber, Hendricks, Baez, Zobrist and if I got lucky be able to get a Rizzo or Bryant also. Did have fun at night after the convention hitting a bunch of night spots with some friends I went with. Was actually the highlight lol. Live and learn

I remember someone making a comment here years ago about how the convention is overrated and the biggest imprint for them was that massive BO stank from a bunch of overhyper neckbeards acting like children as they aggressively sought autographs of their favorite players.
That was enough for me to nope out. I can watch the important stuff on YouTube just fine.
For what it’s worth if anyone ever wants to get in on some easy autograph action, come to a game at Coors field when the Cubs are in. Tickets are cheap, pre game beers are the cheapest in the league, and the ushers don’t care about you coming up to the front row during pre game activities even if it isn’t your section. That’s how I got Seiya to autograph my jersey last September. Real easy and painless, plus great Mountain views over left field.

I'm not an autograph hound, but if I go out of town this year, I'd really like to go to a couple of spring training games. The vibes look and feel so good at Sloan Park. One of these years . . .

You can stay for a bit and spend an outrageous amount of money on practice baseball just don't decide to move here as there are way too many people in AZ. Way too many. A once sleepy town called Buckeye (drive time 30-40-60-90-million minutes) from central PHX (depending on traffic) is expected to have about 1 million plus people when it fully blossoms. 1 million plus. Yet the DBacks will continue to be "small/mid market".
