said Tim Federowicz would be starting for most ML teams. I almost passed iced tea through my nose when he said it. Sit must really be hitting the bottle these days.

That's a stretch. Although he has some nice minor league numbers he still has to prove he can make the jump and stick in the majors. Right now he seems like a decent backup catcher and that's it.

No, he said this is a guy who could be starting on SOME major league teams and there was no doubt a team would claim him if the Cubs tried to send him down so that's why they are carrying 3 catchers because he's very valuable insurance especially with the 2 catchers they have being up there in age and Montero with back problems.

I'd have to research him defensively more to determine...

YEP! Federowicz would not pass Waivers, there would be a few teams that will claim him without hesitation. To risky, kind of have no choice but to keep him on board for now.

Exactly. At a minimum he is a very good backup catcher on most every team.. We were lucky we had him available when Miggy went down..

I'd have to research him defensively more to determine… He could be a nice package piece along with Wood once they find a suitable replacement for Clayton Richards (we can't be without a lefty on the pen).

Federo is terrible, I could care less if someone snatched him up. Back-ups like him are a dime a dozen. His offense is terrible and his defense is mediocre.
Also Sutcliffe was embarrassingly bad announcing that game. I love him as a former cub, but my god is he bad announcing.

How is it that some fans who don't make there living in baseball 100% of the time think they know more than baseball executives who have done this most of their life? Seriously I'm just curious how that thought process works.

Seriously I'm just curious how that thought process works. I don't claim to know more than theo and Jed. They've done an amazing job. It's not difficult to watch federo and realize he isn't good though. He clearly is very bad offensively, which I would care less if he was phenomenal defensively, but he isn't. He hasn't been very impressive keeping the ball in front of him when he's got time. Now in saying this I understand the FO being hesitant to lose him with Ross and montero being a little brittle and old and they don't want to commit to contreras just yet. They should be looking to stash some other old defensive catcher down at AAA and then trying to get federo through waivers because he is a terrible waste of a roster spot

Federo are in an enviable position to be set at catcher. Federo would be on 80% of MLB 25-man rosters and probably start on a couple of teams. With no urgency to NEED to bring in an extra bat then what's the harm letting him sit on the MLB bench?

The cubs will have no problem letting him go if/when they do need a bat
