Gamble the ball would be dropped ? Off the bat it looked like it was going to be more than likely over the CF's head and off the wall and he would be picking it up off the ground. I don't think a drop came into anyones mind, especially Harper. If he's gambling on a drop then he's likely stopping near 2b , I think all the way he thought that ball was going to be banging off the wall. It doesn't matter what he THOUGHT. He thought wrong. He did wrong. It doesn't matter what it looked like to you, off the bat. The CF was measuring the ball. The analyst on MLB said the same. Hell, even Bryce Harper (Mr. Ego) said, "Maybe I should have done it differently". That should tell you all you need to know. Harper took it upon himself to risk it all. And that decision cost his team the game. Phillies lose. That's it. I'm not defending Harper I don't like him at all and actually laughed it was him getting doubled off , just saying he had a second to think about what to do , that's not easy and my main point was questioning you saying something about hoping the ball would be dropped , again I don't think the ball being dropped was the right term , more like not being caught which is far less of a gamble than thinking you'll be ok if it's "dropped" . He apparently didn't think it was going to be caught , as did a lot of people. And not to get picky , but I also wouldn't say it cost his team the game . There were other plays that fit that term a lot better like ones Fine09 mentioned and had Harper played it more carefully and been able to get back to first , there are 2 outs and nobody knows if the next hitter comes through or not with a hit , if he does then maybe the term could be used , but again it's only a tie game then if Harper scores.

Toronto Blue Jays: 0-2 Tampa Bay Rays: 0-2 Baltimore Orioles: 0-3 The regular season's incredibly strong AL-E is quickly eliminated with no wins during the "anything can happen" postseason 12-team tournament.

Anyone else find it humorous that Buxton is an injury replacement?
Any bets on the timeline for Buxton's injury replacement?

Braves and Dodgers inching closer to a first round exit. Good thing they can rest easy on the fact that they were both World Series contenders and not just playoff contenders. I’m sure they will feel good about that in the event they are bounced early.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won 211 Games, the last 2 years. Last 2 years, they're 45-19 (.703) vs the Padres and Diamondbacks. And they've gone 1-6 in the Playoffs against those 2 teams. Mookie Betts & Freddy Freeman combined to go 1-22 (.045) in the 2023 Playoffs. Throw in Max Muncy... And it's 3-33 (.091) Throw in JD Martinez.. And it's 5-43 (.116) You know... You take away Corey Seager, Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, Gavin Lux, Walker Buehler, Julio Urias, Trevor Bauer, Max Scherzer, Dustin May, Craig Kimbrel, Blake Treinen, Daniel Hudson, Tony Gosolin & Kenley Jensen... And they're not so tough.

No Harper talk today? Interesting.... 85% of the board has checked out since the Cubs season ended. Chatter and input has slowed drastically. What’s the interesting part about that? Harper had an excellent game yesterday after an aggressive play that led to a loss the night before. Harper is an excellent player. What point are you trying to prove this time?

Literally dedicated a page and a half to his base running mistake, that he admitted to LOL I am most likely one of the few on here that really like Harper which is understandable because he comes off as cocky & brash but when you have been labeled as the #1 can't miss kid since he was probably 15 years old it's understandable why he comes off that way. I really like that he is a pure student of the game & almost a throwback type player & you sure can't question his career performance in the post season. I like him & although it isn't possible I would welcome him & his giant contract on to the Cubs all day..

Literally dedicated a page and a half to his base running mistake, that he admitted to LOL If it was Garrett Stubbs and not Harper it would have been talked about , so I don't see your point other than you love you some Harper. I just got an extra chuckle out of it because it was him because I don't like him , but I also was pretty much the only one standing up for his actions in this thread. If the ball is not caught he'd be lauded for his great baserunning on the play , but it was and to me it wasn't as big of a mistake as others were making it out to be. He had a split second to decide and from his angle it probably looked like the ball was going to be off the wall so I can't blame him. If anything just some poor judgement on a play where you hardly have time to think , I would not even call it a baserunning mistake.
