I guess its worth kicking the tires on. It could turn out great if he can regain most of his form..

Haha just posted same thing! I just happened to float past roto to see something and it was the top story. Honestly its a nice low risk/ high reward move. Hopefully he can get healthy by his July target date.

Carrie Muskat @carriemuskat 4m4 minutes ago Nathan expected to go to the #Cubs complex in Mesa, AZ to continue rehab Havent kept up with Nathan at all...Whats he rehabbing from? Could be low risk-high reward. At least Theo and Co are always looking to get the team better. That alone is worth its weight in Gold

Soon Nathan will be in Chicago is probably after all-star break is my guess.

2016 version of Rafael Soriano, hopefully this time there is success.
I still see Andrew Miller on the Cubs at some point.

Typical Theo type of move. You just might catch lightning in a bottle.

I would not be upset if Cubs got Chapman at all, just does not seem like a Cubs type of player but I could be wrong.

Id bet my boxers the Yanks didnt trade for Chapman only to pass him off unless the deal was completely lopsided. He is going to be the next Mariano in NY. Plus he will get paid a ridiculous sum of cash next year. Miller is expensive but moveable now that they have Chapman. Personally I would like Betances over Miller.

Anyone know how hard he was throwing back in 2013 when he was still good? He threw 64.2 innings, K'd 73 and had a 1.39 ERA. 2013 was not all that recent, but if the guy can still touch 94-95 at age 41 I'll be pretty impressed haha. Joe Nathan... Didn't think I'd be hearing that name again until his hall of fame induction.

Although I don't see this as being of any importance because he is 41 years old. Coupling his age with his Tommy John surgery and the fact that at his age he won't heal as quickly, trust me I know lol. I'm not expecting much. It's a flier and he was a really good pitcher not too long ago. Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle. I always like Nathan when he was with the Twins and it would be cool to see him go out on a high note and for him to help our Cubs

I'm not sure where he's at now velocity wise but this was his 2nd TJ and combine that with his age it seems like a long shot he can help this team but it's certainly worth a shot since the cost is minimum.

It was reported in the Sun-Times that the Cubs were on his short list of teams he hoped to go to. He seemed exited by being a Cub, so....

Nathan's contract details........... The deal, announced Tuesday, is for the major league minimum $507,500 this year and gives the Cubs a $1.5 million option for next season. He has $100,000 in games bonuses for this year, $800,000 in games finished bonuses and $1.5 million in roster bonuses. In 2017, the bonus opportunities are $100,000 for games, $1.5 million for games finished and $2.5 million based on roster time.
If Nathan pitches in at least 30 games this year, has at least 75 days on the active major league roster and a medical exam determines he finishes the season uninjured, the option price would increase to $1.75 million and there would be a $125,000 buyout if it is declined. If he also has 30 games finished this year, it would become a $2 million mutual option and include a $250,000 buyout if the club declines.

I think Betances has a club-friendly deal and has the most upside, so he definitely stays. Chapman is their closer and they specifically went out and got him for that role. Miller is most likely the first to go because he is one of the most expensive (and valuable) set up men in baseball and the Yankees don't want to pay him $9 million when the team is likely to lose 90 games. These Yankees are not like George Steinbrenner's Yankees. Ownership is not as loose with the wallets as it used to be.
