I know seasons like this are tough on a lot of us.
But despite the obvious improvement in the farm system , now ranked # 4 in baseball by fangrapghs and 5-10 by most other rankings , it's right in front of us why this all can be turrned around quickly.
Over the last 60 games the Cubs are 32-28
Since the all star break the Cubs have the 3rd best starting pitching ERA in all of baseball at 3.15 , only the Dodgers and Astros are better and they've done it with a lot of help that came up from the minors because pretty much every pitcher they had starting other than Stroman has missed time the 2nd half. So when almost your entire rotation goes down and you still can have one of the best starting staffs stat wise in the game, that's pretty damn amazing and impressive.
The farm is loaded, already had a high A Championship with the South Bend Cubs and the Smokies are 1 game away from the Southern league AA championship, just have to win 1 of the next 2 games, both at home.
There are as we've been told ample resources available to spend and also a great amount of depth to make trading for veteran talent if needed possible.
Everything is lining up well for these upcoming seasons to be very enjoyable. This is not going to take 3-4-5 more years like some people think.

I continue to stand by my thoughts at the 2021 trade deadline that we will become competitive next year & a serious contender for potential long playoff runs from there on out. The big sell off was a big part of how this should be able to take place along with the new player development direction & a very large & open checkbook. Go Cubs!!!

Same here, my sight is really on the 2024 season and beyond , but 2023 is one they could actually contend in with just 2 or 3 key moves . Rodon, Turner and Chafin is my hope for this winter. With the SP depth they have , I'm now ready to gamble on Rodon's health. The big sell off although it can be looked at as the beginning of tearing it all down , sped things up by a couple of years too because they hit on just about every trade they made. Although there is a large and open checkbook the position they are in doesn't call for them to have the need to sign a lot of players so they can go big on a Turner this winter , or Ohtani next winter . And the perception some have that the Cubs won't be able to attract bigtime free agents is already being proven to be wrong with guys like Rodon and Turner already having interest . I can't wait for this winter , it's going to be very interesting

Another reason to like the future of this team.
When was the last time a Cubs starting pitcher who made atleast 19 starts and finished the season with an ERA in the very low 3's which Sampson will do unless he gets totally bombed today and who will still be a rostered player will not be a lock to be part of next seasons rotation ?
And another who made 8 starts and had a 3.11 ERA Assad might not even make the opening day bullpen.
And another who started 17 games and had a 3.76 ERA Thompson might be relagated to being better used out of the bullpen.

And another reason , the Cubs finished the season with their SP going 11 straight games allowing 1 earned run or less and three of those guys Wesneski, Sampson and Assad all came up through the minors this season. I know Sampson has been around but we might be able to credit the Cubs system for the huge improvement he's shown from his Texas days.

Bizarre fact, the Cubs record was 37 - 44 BOTH at home & on the road. That almost never happens.
