Just when I mutter to myself "What's this world coming to?" about the shooting outside Nationals stadium, I read about the fan who threw a ball at Alex Verdugo. Now I have to scream, "What's this world coming to?!" I guess they caught the piece of shit who threw it. I hope he is never allowed into another sporting event of any kind. Ever. Ban him for life. You don't have to be a lip reader to see what Verdugo was yelling at the fan afterwards. It is a strange world where just about anything can happen anywhere now. Such a shame we are at this point. What really happened: Some young geek winds up with a ball thrown into the stands by an opposing player. Then, after everyone assesses, the drunken and rain drenched crowd begins to chant "throw it back - throw it back!". Thinking it's the cool thing to do and trying to impress his lady friend, the kid throws the ball back at the player, who isn't looking. Can you believe it? Through the wind and rain, the soaking wet ball actually beans him. It wasn't like he was a completely stationary target. It wasn't like it was from the lower deck and within friendly reach. The dude was 150 ft away. Baez would have missed him by 6 feet. And now MLB wants to paint how they will not tolerate and they need to show force. And they find the kid, shaking in his boots and pissing down his pants. So, you get what we have here today. How many of those drunks around the dumb ass luck kid will step up and turn themselves in? If it was me and I was one of those drunks? I'd ban myself in protest of this over-reaction.

That's an entirely different story than the one I read that made it sound like the guy did it on purpose. A Yankee fan throwing "at" a Red Sox player. Still, he should know better than to even throw it toward Verdugo but it doesn't sound as egregious as it was played up to be.

Here's another take where the commentator wonders how the national press would have reacted if the kid had hit a black player.

Jorge Soler homered today and the Royals are taking a 6-3 lead over the Brewers into the 9th EDIT: Royals win!
Yu Darvish came off the IL and was outpitched in Atlanta last night. The winning run came in the 6th, when Darvish surrendered a HR to Freeman. Darvish has a 4.76 ERA in his last 9 games. Joc got 1 hit and raised his average to .237
Wanna see a Moonshot?
Eloy Jiménez is eight games (.300 / .897) into his rehab assignment and is currently playing with Triple-A Charlotte. The public debate already has begun as to when he’ll be back with the White Sox.
GG Center fielder Luis Robert (.316 / .822 this season) has been cleared to begin a Minor League rehab assignment tonight with High-A Winston-Salem. Jiménez and Robert worked out together at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona and have supported each other throughout their rehabs.

Lefty, Kyle Freeland was on the losing end of a 1-0 loss to the Dodgers. The Dodgers own the Rockies but the Rockies were on a Season best, 3 game road winning streak. www.mlb.com/news/rockies-edged-by-dodgers-in-kyle-freeland-s-startFreeland sustained a left shoulder strain in Spring Training, missed nearly two months of the regular season and posted a 9.58 ERA his first five starts back.Freeland now has 6 straight successful-dominating starts. 35IP / 2.06 ERA / 30K - 7BB / 1.00 WHIP (7 BB is Hendricks territory) Freeland got his 1st arb raise this year ($5.025M). He has 2 years of arbitration left. Baez w/2 yrs left - $5.2M Happ this yr - $4.1M Not fair that the Rockies have to lose a guy like this. But then, not fair that large market teams get less 1st-2nd Rd picks and less IFA money. So, lose him they will. 2 years left. If ya could, would ya?

Yu Darvish took his 3rd consecutive loss today. This time to the Marlins. And a 4th game where he surrendered 6 in 3 innings but had a no decision. Today: 5IP / 4R / 2HR Darvish returned from the 10 day IL in his last appearance. His ERA in his last 10 games (2-4) is 5.00 (1.25 WHIP) After leaving 'em loaded in the 7th & a seemingly harmless Gleyber Torres baserunning blunder in the 8th: The Yankees, Domingo Germán lost his no-hitter in the bottom of the 8th. Then, the bullpen entered & the Red Sox score 5. Yanks lose 5-4 www.mlb.com/video/red-sox-s-five-run-8th-inningJorge Soler homered twice. When you see the 2nd one, it makes you wonder how he's struggled. Soler's 4th HR in 5 games. 5th in 11. www.mlb.com/royals/video/jorge-soler-launches-two-homers?t=t118-default-vtpJoc Pederson got 4 hits, including a HR in the blowout last night. Today he got 1 hit in the loss. (.235) The matchup between Lynn & Woodruff tonight, features the lowest combined ERA of any two Starters in the history of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. Looks like Eloy is back tomorrow in Kansas City. www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/white-sox-eloy-jimenez-expected-return-monday-vs-royals

The Padres better check there rear-view mirror because the Reds are gaining on them. A Padres loss tonight would put the Reds 3.5 games back.

Ryan Tepera entered the game with a 1 Run lead, in the 8th. He immediately surrendered a game tying HR to Franmil Reyes. Then, a Single to Harold Ramiriz, on the first pitch. Then, a BB to Oscar Mercada. Then, LaRussa pulled the plug.
Jose Ruiz came in and put out the fire, before the Sox scored 2 in a crazy bottom of the 8th and won the game. Sox drop Indians another game back.
Note: Kimbrel made an appearance, mid-game, laughing with Cubs gear bag in tow.
Abreu was flat out beaned in the first. Then, after the Sox scored the go ahead run, he was hit in the helmet with the bases loaded in the 8th. LaRussa went nutz! He charged the catcher. Caused the benches to clear.
2 Indians imitate Bonds and Mays, but the result isn't quite the same...

I will watch the Field of Dreams game tonight on Fox. I thought about putting my name in the lottery for a ticket but didn't because even though I live an hour away, I knew I wouldn't be able to go in person. The thought never occurred to me that the secondary market would be so hot. My son's friend got a ticket. I think he's going.

I know it isn't the same field, but having been at the original with my dad when he was still alive, I am curious how it all looks up there now and really curious to see how this experiment works. Hope it is an annual thing.

I think the article said it was in negotiations. A Sox/Cubs game there would be fantastic.
