It is apparently how things were Fitz. I dont think players are making this up and this is why they asked Joe to be more hands on last year which you complained last week was them meddling. Maybe they should have taken a harder stance and canned him. But with so many players kind of saying the same thing it seems like Joe was managing in retirement mode. I already read something from Angels camp about Joe delegating spring line ups to Gallego and pitching to the pitching coach and somebody asking what does Joe do. I love the guy but it sure seems like he is getting too laid back. I agree with your assessment 100%. Then again Joe is in California so "laid back" probably plays better than most other places but if they don't make the playoffs this will not last.

Morrow Update:
Morrow apparently has recovered from illness and expected to pitch a bullpen session today.

Hendricks was pretty outspoken too. He did not rip on Madden directly but he seems like yet another player alluding to things just being too relaxed with the team and welcoming hard work and accountability once again being part of the plan. Just wish the Cubs would have just put an end to all of this after 2018 if this is how things were. I think the only way they could have stopped this situation any sooner would have been to can Joe & they simply weren't ready to do that to a guy that helped break that WS drought without at least giving him a chance to fix it.

Yeah I think out of respect they gave Joe a chance to tighten things back up a bit and play out his contract and hope for the best. That is why they were very open about saying they want him more hands on.
But you're not going to change a guy like Joe so it is what it is and it was time for change.
And in my opinion I don't think they could have found a better fit than Ross.

Bryant said he sat down and talk to Theo on Sunday and was assured he is NOT going to be traded before opening day. Said they talked about the grievance, his desire to stay with the Cubs, etc. KB said it was a great meeting.

Also, the way Kipnis is talking about Nicom it sounds like he thinks Nico is staying up with the big club out of ST. If Kipnis makes the team he excited to work with Nico and help him grow as a player.
I always said I thought it was a long shot Kipnis made the team. Now, as long as he can hit somewhat, I think his presence may be required by Theo/Ross on the roster. We'll see how ST goes.

I did not think about the mentoring part for Hoerner but makes total sense. I never thought Kipnis was a threat to Hoerner 2B jo anyhow, if anything he is a threat to Descalso spot on the team.

Jon Lester responding to Manfred calling the WS trophy "a piece of metal": That's somebody that has never played our game. You play for a reason. You play for that piece of metal. I'm very proud of the 3 that I have. If that's the way he feels then he needs to take his name off the trophy".

Jordan Bastian @mlbastian 51m Kris Bryant, asked if he believes he'll be with the Cubs for Opening Day after his conversation with Epstein: "Yes. I do." Through the July 31 Trade Deadline? "Yep. I'm a Chicago Cub." will see when time comes. obviously hope all this is true.

You clearly subscribe to the Reagan/Trump 'crush the little guy' economic strategy. Careful there. No political discussions Wasn't intended as one, but I get it. I retract or submit or whatever I need to do.

That was not exactly what was reported on MLBTraderumors but it did say that KB came away with an explanation of what had transpired regarding him in trade discussions the past few months that he understood & was okay with. He was not given a guarantee that he wouldn't be traded (because that would have been idiotic) but he was told that there is a great chance that he is going to stay with the Cubs. Picture a contender losing their 3rd. baseman for the year next week & calling the Cubs about KB with a real sense of urgency. That is why they can't guarantee anything.

If Kipnis is healthy in ST I believe he will make the team and he would be a great bench guy to have & would be a great mentor to the younger guys. I still don't think 288 at bats above single A is nearly enough for NICO & couple that with the fact that if they keep him down a month & a half they get the extra year of control on our ONLY top 50 MILB prospect. Playing & hitting every day in AAA cannot possibly hurt his development so I see very little downside if any..

I'm very proud of the 3 that I have. If that's the way he feels then he needs to take his name off the trophy". Manfred apologized yesterday at his news conf. in Arizona. He explained that that comment was after 45 minutes of Q&A and he was trying to drive a point home but used a serious lack of good judgement when he said that. I'll give him one thing, he doesn't dodge the tough questions at all & there isn't anything he won't talk about. He also addressed the play on player comments being very nasty & something he had never seen in his years of involvement with MLB but understood it was a horrible situation that caused it. He also addressed the comments that the high profile players have recently stated where they were pissed that there were no penalties on players but Manfred explained that when they started the investigation that NO players would discuss the situation & he had to go through the players union & they worked out a deal that players would only talk about it if they were ALL given blanket immunity & without the players talking the investigation was dead before it started. That info will most likely shut down the chirping about no penalties for players or they are going against their own union which will not happen..

Per Bruce Levine, Kris Bryant will be the Cubs leadoff hitter for 2020.
