Former Cub Ken Holtzman died Sunday at 78 years old. He threw a couple no-hitters and was a vital member of the '69 Cubs. RIP Lefty.

R.I.P. Kenny.
I remember liking him as a kid, the 69 team was the first year I remember watching baseball .
But what I liked the most about him was he was traded to the A's for one of my top 5 all time favorite Cubs and my first childhood favorite that I used to immitate playing baseball, Rick Monday.

Very sad to hear. Pitchers of my youth which really started my fandom of my beloved Cubbies along with Bill Hands, Fergie, and even submariner Ted Abernathy.

Oh man, I hate to see this. Loved that 69 team and the great pitching they had. Ken Holtzman being a huge part of it. I hated when he left, but it worked out well for him. Sad to hear of these guys of a certain age dying off.

RIP Ken.
Sadly surviving ‘69 Cubs are dwindling. Fergie, Billy, Don Kessinger, Randy Hundley right off hand.

All of a sudden I crave grainy black and white TV and Jack Brickhouse's voice. I think he was the first Cub pitcher I saw.

He was traded away for Rick Monday, who was born midway between us. Rick and I will have to keep eating our Wheaties.
