Did y’all catch Cashman and his comments about Stanton to the media? Way too honest and threw Stanton under the bus with his injuries. Was he wrong? No, but wrong to say it out from closed doors in my opinion. Stanton’s agent responded: This same agent also represents Yamamoto. 😂 He's not wrong, but he was wrong to say it publicly. Perhaps he learned too much from Steinbrenner over the years, without realizing he's not the owner. Yankees aren't too far off from Mets status. Not quite a dumpster fire yet, but messy. Wrong to say it like he did , but he's not wrong , with Stanton it's not a matter of if , but when. I'm not sure if he said it to purposely piss him off so he demands a trade , and so it would justify a trade , but to make a trade he's going to have to eat a lot of money. And Stanton's agents comments ....you have to be made of teflon , come on man , your client is made out of balsa wood.

With 4 more years on his deal, his age and his perpetual injury status - they'd have to pay about 80% of that salary I bet.
Man just had a -.8 WAR in 415 plate appearances. I'm not so sure he was accurate in saying he's always good when healthy.

Stanton is a crazy case study... by age 29 he had over 300 career HRs already and now less than 100 over the last 5 season. If he could have just played 130 games a year he'd have a shot at the all time record.

If he could have just played 130 games a year he'd have a shot at the all time record. He's a monstah IIRC he had a very high torque rating on his swing. The highest or one of the top in MLB. The sabermetric stat probably had a different name than that, but I wonder how his swing torque rates at his current age.
Stanton reminds me of Chapman - they have such an elite ability with their respective strength of bat/pitching strength that they stand out above the rest.

No surprise. All seven players who received a $20.325MM qualifying offer have rejected it, reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The deadline for a decision is today at 3 pm Central but it seems all of Shohei Ohtani, Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, Sonny Gray, Josh Hader, Aaron Nola and Blake Snell have already made up their minds.

The Oakland Athletic's proposed move to Las Vegas is expected to be approved this week.
Congrats to former Cubs Bench Coach and current Orioles manager Brandon Hyde for earning AL Manager of the Year.
Skip Shumacker of the Marlins wins it in the NL.

Some rumors floating around:
Rumors, unconfirmed per Heyman, say Yamamoto prefers the West Coast.
Cubs prefer Ohtani over Bellinger, will not try to sign both, only 1.

A lot of rumors saying Ohtani is the Cubs priority this off season and the chance they sign him is greater than they sign Bellinger. Ricketts supposedly giving the green light to spend what it takes . I'm still trying to not get my hopes up , but it's getting tougher by the day. To clarify , the Cubs will try to sign both , but not Bellinger until they are out on Ohtani.

For whatever thats worth. If true it will make that strategy real simple. Short of cubs fans being extra nice to ohtani on social media, all we can do is wait and hope his decision gets made asap. I want the ohtani excitement at wrigley. What a time we'd have in the stands. If he signs with us i might buy a Hoyer jersey.

Don’t think anything I’ve read suggests that they are interested in both Ohtani and Bellinger, nor that they’d pivot to Bellinger should Ohtani sign elsewhere. Rather, what I’ve seen suggests they aren’t closing the door on Bellinger but are uninterested at the rumored price tag and also don’t want to wait until mid-late January to prioritize upgrades. Boras has repeatedly said Bellinger could make sense to sit tight and play the waiting game. I think the front office wants to target significant upgrades and be aggressive in their plans, not be subject to a free agent waiting out the market. Come the new year if Bellinger is still looking for a new home and his suggested price tag comes back down to earth a bit I could see the front office being interested.

As someone who watches close to every cubs game, watches some minor league, and has season tickets to a legit college program, I really dont watch alot of mlb outside of the cubs. But when the Angels were on ESPN I watched. He is that guy I would pay to see play. Cant really say that about to many.

Come the new year if Bellinger is still looking for a new home and his suggested price tag comes back down to earth a bit I could see the front office being interested. Most of the stuff I've seen says they want to bring Bellinger back but Ohtani is the focus first. Nobody really knows though , it's all speculation and the rumors are all over the place with the price range from 140 to into the 300's so who the hell knows until we hear an actual number from Boras . If Ohtani signs elsewhere then they might go hard and aggressive after Belli to the point he doesn't need to play the waiting game or they might pivit to a major trade. Or like you say and they have done with guys recently , wait out the market for them to come back to them, but that doesn't match the whole aggressive approach. You, I and they know they need to replace Bellingers bat or they take a huge step backwards and there are not a lot of options through free agency to do thatother than Ohtani or the man himself or a major trade for a guy like Soto.
