Yeah, that is all Boras speak for "I want to get you the fattest contract available so my commision is therefore just as good". Boras opens mouth and nothing comes out but used car sales pitches with fancy data presentations. Belli can easily tell him "Nope I want the Cubs only" at a fair market price. Whether he does or not is his call but to be fair we helped him get his career back on track so there is that.

Of course he will and it's Boras job to try to hype him up and sell him as the best thing out there and he's not wrong in what he's saying about him and his skill set. The only real news or surprise in that is how he's slamming the Dodgers for the way they handled the shoulder injury . I still think the Cubs will sign him in free agency , he's not going to be cheap , but they will spend on the right players like they did with Swanson and Jed seems to really love Bellinger and having already had him here and knowing about him first hand as a player and person and what he means to the team can be a big help in making up your mind on how hard to pursue a guy.

I know it can be just speak what you know people want to hear , but Belli says he loves it here and loves Wrigley and he really seems like a great fit in the whole team chemistry aspect so I think the Cubs will have a big advantage. My only fear is they start out with the focus on Ohtani , and as much as I'd love them to sign him , I think they have no chance and then when they lose out on him another team would be aggressive on prioritize Belli and the Cubs end up losing out on both because they weren't prioritizing Belli.

The player is the boss, and the agent must obey.

We always want to believe the player has control since he's the boss of the agent, but at the end of the day, almost 100% of the time the agent gets it done for the player and we rarely ever hear a player overrule an agent.

The Cubs do have a big advantage over any other team, I have no doubt it will be Bellinger preferred team and I do believe the Cubs want him back too, but they required to check in on Ohtani too, but it will not hinder their relationship with Bellinger in the process, they get it and there is no chance Boras will allow Bellinger to sign before Ohtani is off the market anyhow. Cubs have the money to bring Bellinger back but Bellinger is not going to give any type of discount and does not need to. My guess at the end the Cubs are not as aggressive on Ohtani due to the injury with will go the Bellinger/Yamamoto Route instead.

Yeah.. it is very rare especially for a Boras client to overrule their agent, you have Boras as your agent for a reason and that is to maximize his value. Altuve is the rare exception.

It happens, just not often and not that often with Boras , although he's been fired a decent amount of times , off hand from what I can remember, ARod, Texiera, Big Z , Cano, Gio Gonzales, the older Weaver brother and some others. And then there are players like Aramis Ramirez who just minutes into free agency told his agent to stop taking offers and just get something done with the Cubs. I'm sure Belli tests the free agent waters, but I have a good feeling him and the Cubs will get something done.

Being fired versus telling Boras no while he stays your agent are 2 different things IMO

Being fired versus telling Boras no while he stays your agent are 2 different things IMO Well they usually fire him because they butt heads and he wants them to do what THEY don't want to do , or like Weaver just end up with a very bad read on his market. As far as telling him no , that's something we'll rarely ever hear about , not because it doesn't happen , but because it doesn't get made public often and usually the only time it ever does get made public is when they end up firing him , so both pretty much go hand in hand here. I think KB made a comment at one point when he kept being hounded about getting an extension and somebody mentioned to him that Scott won't let him sign one. And I think KB simply said well he works for me, I don't work for him.
