Per Jesse Rogers it sounds like the Cubs possibly could of got a major overpay haul for Bellinger if they decided to trade him at the deadline. Yankees were even desperate enough to consider Dominguez in the deal and the Blue Jays were pushing just as hard. Super happy the Cubs kept Bellinger and it was the right call, but if it was not for that winning streak the Cubs might have gotten a top 40 prospect in return for Bellinger is just nuts to me. The Yankees had their eyes on him since pretty much April , all I kept seeing is stories that they will target him at the deadline and how perfect a fit he is for them.

Not trading Bellinger was a big risk for a team ~5 games out of the division lead at the deadline. The market indicated as such, as the best available bats were still quality ones in Candelario and maybe Pham, but not likely difference makers on their own. But Bellinger and his performance thus far? Would’ve been huge. Of course trading him would have also been a risk. I am comfortable with keeping him and will only feel better if they actually do make the playoffs, but a part of me will always wonder. IT was a risk, but per this video I think Jed is very happy he did not trade him. I might just be over thinking here , and wishful thinking but is there a possible Belly extension that's going to happen ? Did Jed kind of tip it ? And maybe on purpose ? Watch the video closely , Jed said he doesn't comment about negotiations in season and said a couple time Belly knows how they feel about him which I'm reading as he knows they want him and then right at the end , Jed cracks a huge smile and bats his eyes . Agian , probably just wishful thinking on my part, but I found that little gesture interesting.

I'm just happy they got Candelario back, but then I heard they might shift him over to first since Madrigal is "settling in".
NNOOOO! 3B is your biggest problem you idiots. 16-1 16-1.
With Bellinger at first and Candelario at third, you have what we wanted. Oh but, we taught Madrigal to play third, so we HAVE to continue the experiment.

Well, I'm replaying the Reds game I missed and what do I see?
E Candelario 1B If ya trade for a 3B and play him somewhere else, you are an idiot.
I rest my case.

Candelario at 1B or 3B depends on who you like better on any given day, Madrigal or Tauchman?
Although another wrinkle in all of that would be doing what they did Tuesday night, putting Tauchman in RF (or I suppose LF is also an option) with Bellinger in CF, Candelario at 1B, and Madrigal at 3B. That might be your best lineup.
I never was the biggest Madrigal fan and I still have questions of whether the bat really plays at 3B going into next year, but I'll admit that he's done well dating back before his hamstring injury.
Tauchman has really impressed me with the quality of at-bats. I think they might be better with Hoerner batting leadoff and Tauchman batting 2nd, but not a huge issue.

The reason they are going with Candelario at 1st. was because his metrics graded above average at both spots him playing first graded out better than 3rd. Madrigal over his last 10 games is hitting .394 with an OBP of .424 with 3 doubles & a HR & playing a flawless 3rd. base. He is not at all your typical 3rd. baseman with a power bat but really do we care about where a guy plays if he hits like that?

Any that scores 20 runs might be your best lineup. LOL

If we didn't have Nico Hoerner, I'd say stick him at 2B and fuggetaboutit. But the performance of late can't be sustained. Sooner or later he's going to hit .250 for a stretch with 1 RBI and unable to run into a fastball by accident and send it into the basket.
Did I hear that Candelario is playing with a borrowed glove at first because he didn't play there since 2020? So what are these "metrics" of which you speak? Three years old? And that really matters?
Not arguing, just being ornery....and I guess playing 1B must be like riding the old bike with the banana seat.

Yeah, using Amaya's 1b glove. And correct, only 62 games played at 1b in his career, but...the numbers support it. To me it sounds like a reach or made up excuses to play him at a spot against a certain matchup rather than saying Madrigal or Tauchman is worse against a certain opponent. But as long as they're winning and scoring on average 18 runs a game I'll allow them to pull whatever stats they want.

He didn't platy 1st this year or last at all, just 3rd. & DH so I understand your comment, I'm just repeating the stat info that the talking heads were throwing out there.. I understand the concern on Madrigal & if he does start to slump I'd either do as you say or run Wisdom out to 3rd. base. Then again he is a bat to ball guy that is supposed to get on base like he is.. We'll see. And FYI I like ornery..

I don't care where or what he's playing, when the guy goes 8 for 9 let him play the organ if he wants to .

I saw the interview when Ross said that about his firstbase metrics and he could barely say it with a straight face. Is just an excuse for using players in certain matchups. But who cares. Im sure Jeimer can do a better job defensively at first than Mancini.

The cubs ran defensive metrics from 36 years ago when I played shortstop in little league and it showed I could play first better than Mancini.
