Allegations and then he goes into a tailspin of losses.

I know a lot of people are likely to get defensive over this topic and innocent until proven guilty but there are two things that happened right before he became a shadow of the pitcher he had been the previous 4 months:
-He threw a no hitter in Cincy. -The steroid talk, not necessarily accusations, really amped up.
Perhaps it all just got into his head. Perhaps he was juicing and due to all the national attention he figured to stop. Perhaps the league just figured him out. Regardless of what happened, he has not been good for a good while now. A team with championship aspirations needs its aces, and our best pitchers right now and for quite some time are Lester and Hendricks.

The question would be then has he lost any velocity? If not I doubt he was juicing if he stopped

Gee, Theo said that the Cubs were gonna lose 4-5-6 in a row, and then they DID. Did that get into the team as a whole's head? No. They're tired. They are gonna play 24 games straight. Rest and getting healthy is needed for this team. As I said, it's too bad we have so many players in the ASG, when they need to recharge the batteries for the 2nd half.

It isn't his stuff that is his problem(which it would be if he was), its location(which PEDs do nothing to help). Because of how he throws the ball, it is very easy to get of sync. Thats all it is, nothing more, nothing less.

Allegations and then he goes into a tailspin of losses. It's his delivery that is the problem. PEDs don't make you stop throwing over the top.

This is getting ridiculous. I'd call it a trolling effort, but it was too weak to be considered an effort. If Jake had been taking PEDs (which he wasn't), his performance would not be significantly affected for at least a year or two after he stopped taking them. They are not magic pills.
As others have pointed out, it's his control and his confidence that are causing his issues. It's definitely a big concern, but all pitchers go through periods like that. We just have to ride it out.

Why make veiled accusations based on things like performance or fitness? These are expected of an athlete. Seems that some people are just mean spirited and don't mind smearing someone's name just because that player didn't play well and their team lost. Some folks need to separate themselves a bit from the team and understand that it does not impact their lives as greatly as they want to believe it does. There is a testing policy. If people are taking PEDs, they will eventually get caught and suffer the consequences. It's a game. Relax and enjoy it and let things play out.

Arrieta just finished one of the best runs a pitcher has ever had in the history of the game. Most of us expected him to struggle eventually and have at least a minor slump after this run, he is human.

Theo only said extended slumps wouldn't happen not certain numbers. And, the cubs haven't lost five or six in a row at any point this season so i dint know what thats all about. Their longest losing streak is four games. They are on the verge of an extended slump, however, but not quite there. 1-8 in last nine is damn close. They would have to win their next two games before the break to not reach that level.

I think the question about his velocity is really the best we can do. He is innocent until proven guilty for sure. If he is maintaining velocity I doubt he has stopped assuming he did juice. I just don't want to see his name drug through the mud if it's not true.

He threw with the same velocity in college. There are many reasons for his current struggles. Command, confidence, pressure of being the ace on a team predicted by most to win it all, possible nagging injury?, luck-these are professional hitters he is facing. There was so much pressure for him to keep this up and when it started to go south things just snowballed.

I'm not too worried about Bryant, Russell and Rizzo playing in the All Star Game, they have been playing very well lately and with the flexibility in this team they can get days off when needed. I know this might not be the most popular thing to say, but I hope Arrieta doesn't even play in the ASG. He needs some time off badly. Kind of odd the player that got extra rest from Warren pitching was Hendricks, when he needs it less than anyone else.
