Gotta spend to win ? Tigers entire 26 man post season roster 28.6 million , Josh Hader who they beat 29 million Keep trying Batman.... hook, line and sinker 2022 it was the Rays? 2023 it was the DBacks? 2024 it's the Tigers. Never the same team. Go be them Batman, I'd rather the Cubs be the Dodger, Yankees and Phillies with a chance every season.

Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, all WC byes. Mets win then the top 4 payroll teams are in the LDS. But hey, lets get lucky like the Tigers LOL

My grip is how do you have a $240 million payroll but only have a .500 team, is that more on the FO or ownership? If the Brewers had the Cubs current payroll they would likely be yearly powerhouse team that would never have to rebuild.

He wants to be a mid team that makes a run, but in the same breath how can you say you want something sustainable? Bad contracts. Bad short term contracts. This is what drives me crazy about the "well the Cubs spend, look at their payroll" people. When Belly's 3/80 falls off Jed will replace it with another 3/60 contract so it always looks like the Cubs are spending, but it's on bad contracts adding opt outs and NTC. I mean, look at the 2024 retained payroll list. The Cubs are still fucking paying Marcus Stroman and Mancini, Gomes and Branhardt.. almost 20 million dollars. Then you add 10 million for Smyly and 5.5 million to Bote, like WTF we doing here?

YES if he is not allowing to sign a star player to a major deal but Jed needs to do a much better job spending the money correctly too. Hopefully now that a lot of the prospects will be breaking through to the majors that this issue will solve itself in a way but like you said even if Belly does opt out, Jed is just going to replace him will similar value player on a similar type contract which will not really be a big impact improvement this team that really needs it. The Whole why sign a major superstar player to big money when you can sign 3 good players for the same price to fill other holes instead approach has been proven to be flawed.

Going over budget is just a reality of playing in a division where everyone gets competitive balance draft picks but you.

I'm NOT saying I want the Cubs to emulate that at all so slow down there dude. I want the Cubs to do what it takes to win and when Rickett's bought the team he said they'd be a top 3 payroll , they were shorty after that and then teams started to go crazy when they started getting their own tv money deals and he didn't hold up to remaining a top 3 payroll. I'd love him to spend more, but he also should be able to win with a team that IS over the luxury tax.

If we spend 175m on a 2 win 1st basemen this offseason... Just, please lets not do that.

Go Brewers! A salute to the divisional rival that bested the Cubs this year, and a sneer to the team that dampened my only smile while serving in Vietnam in 1969.
